Build your skills

  • Understand the skills needed for a manager and create a plan to develop these skills.
  • Volunteer/seek opportunities in the workplace or in a voluntary organisation that build your business and people development skills.
  • Hire a coach.

Perform exceptionally

  • Agree on and deliver stretch targets.
  • Identify the pain in your organisation and help calm that pain from your current position.
  • Make yourself and your work visible to your  “boss” and your “boss’ boss.”

 

Develop a career development plan

  • Identify leadership competencies you need to be displaying.
  • Improve your technical skills.
  • Develop/mentor a team member.
