Job Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all organization’s operations in areas such as Production, Quality & Warehousing.  The incumbent is responsible for improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Initiate production plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower (means and time analysis), equipment, facilities, materials and capital. Ensure that business objectives and production schedules are met while ensuring product standards that will exceed customers’ expectations.
  2. Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organizations mission -- specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.
  3. Manage and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of departments through improvements to each function as well as coordination and communication between support and business functions.
  4. Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence.
  5. Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure that the facility supports the company’s strategic initiatives. Implement and manage lean manufacturing policies and protocol.
  6. Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout the departments for problem solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and ad-hoc basis, depending on need. Encourage use of new techniques and focus on fact-based problem solving
  7. Improve manpower utilization within existing departments and processes.
  8. Manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volumes.
  9. Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas
  10. Maintain individual skills by keeping up to the date with the latest production Management concepts.

Requirements:
  • High-end seafood processing experience will be an asset
  • Able to work in a fast paced, high pressure, challenging environment
  • Minimum 5-7 years in seafood/food production mid/upper level management
  • Strong analytical and financial skills with experience in forecasting and inventory management.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule according to seasonal demands
  • Ability to delegate responsibility
  • HACCP certified will be an asset.
