Job Summary:

To participate in the development and management of projects, the implementation of projects, and the development of the Institute.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Participation in Project Development and Management
  • Assist in identifying potential areas for project development consistent with the Institute’s strategic plan and programme priorities
  • Work in cooperation with other members of staff and donors to develop effective project proposals
  • Drafting of project proposals and budgets
  • Participate in the management of projects to help ensure they achieve their purpose, goals and objectives, remain within budget and are completed on time
  • Assist in conducting project monitoring and evaluation and adapting project implementation plans to match new circumstances
  • Participate in the preparation of reports for donors on the progress and outcome of projects
 
Project Implementation
Under the supervision of the programme or project leader:
  • Conduct research and analyse research findings
  • Provide technical assistance and training to a range of stakeholders from community to technical levels
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate workshops and stakeholder consultations
  • Coordinate the logistics for workshops, seminars and conferences and assist in the preparation and delivery of technical presentations at and the reporting on such events
  • Lead on discrete project components as assigned by the senior technical staff
Communications
  • Draft and/or assist with drafting, project communication products (e.g. technical reports, policy briefs, PowerPoint presentations);
  • Draft and/or assist with drafting, papers for peer-reviewed journals;
  • Participate in peer reviewing and critiquing of technical reports and papers drafted by other members of staff and/or consultants
Organisational Development
  • Participate in development and implementation of the Institute’s strategic plan, including through the design and implementation of programmes
  • Work in collaboration with other members of staff on the development and implementation of work plans and the annual budget
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director and other senior technical staff, as assigned
  • Promote the Institute’s vision, mission and values
  • Contribute to effective relationships with donors, governmental and inter-governmental agencies, NGOs and CBOs in the region and internationally
 
Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree in natural resource management, environmental management, sustainable development or other fields relevant to the Institute’s work
 
Experience:
Minimum of three years of related experience, including experience working in the Caribbean. 
Experience of working in a research or NGO environment will be considered an asset.
 
Essential Competencies:
  • Strong research and analysis skills;
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written – with the ability to communicate effectively with varying target audiences, both specialist and non-specialist;
  • Fluent in English
  • Computer literate including use of internet and email and Microsoft Office: Word and Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in teams
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to travel up to eight weeks per year, usually for no more than 1 week at a time.
Desirable Competencies
  • Basic project management and proposal writing
  • Facilitation skills
  • Fluency in Spanish, French or Creole
