Summary of Responsibilities:
The Business Development – Team Lead implements business development and marketing strategies targeted at increasing the Company’s market share.  The incumbent will achieve set production targets for new business, retention and premier service by successfully navigating the market, building relationships with brokers, motivating the agency network and overseeing the Business Development Team.
 
Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Development and Implementation of Sales Strategies and Initiatives
    • Actively markets new and existing products and services to optimize profitable growth and achievement of monthly production targets.
    • Makes recommendations on new products and implements approved strategies for business acquisition, retention and expansion.
 
  • Relationship Building/ Production
    • Influences and builds on new and existing Broker relationship(s) in an effort to acquire new business and retain existing (clients/accounts/policies).
    • Conducts regular visits to assigned brokers to achieve agreed targets and produces weekly reports as required.
 
  • Agency Network Development and Management
    • Pursues the development of the Agency Network and drives production by motivating them through product, sales and service training programmes.
    • Monitors and reports on production.
 
  • Premier Service Champion
    • Champions and ensures that team delivers premier service to internal and external stakeholders in line with the company’s objectives in a professional and courteous manner and solicits feedback on the service level(s).
 
  • Market Intelligence Gathering
    • Actively pursues market intelligence on competitor’s products, rates, commission levels and general industry trends to guide decision making.
 
  • Compliance
    • Support all relevant Departments in the collection of compliance documents, addressing any claims matters and following up on receivables.
    • Ensures that all business and interactions are in keeping with the approved company standards, policies and practices including underwriting practices and AML and advises of any deviations.
 
  • Monitoring & Supervision
    • Actively monitors and ensures that the performance of the Business Development Team is in keeping with performance standards.
    • Ensures that the Business Development Team is visible, accessible and meets deliverables as per Business Development Plan.
    • Develops the team’s capacity and culture by providing guidance and coaching in sales techniques.
    • Makes recommendations for performance improvement.
    • Conducts Performance Reviews and other HR activities, for the Business Development Team.
 
  • Analysis & Reporting
    • Analyses the team’s and department’s performance and prepares monthly and quarterly Reports on that basis.
 
 
Job Requirements - Qualifications/ Experience/ Knowledge:
  • Diploma in Insurance.
  • Certificate in Business Management.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in an insurance environment.
  • Knowledge of marketing concepts will be an asset.
  • Strong background in Business Development
