A Marine Transportation Company is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Electrician
 
JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
 
Assists Electro Technical Officer in the installation, maintenance and repairs of all electrical systems as it pertains to the marine assets for which the Company is responsible. The incumbent will also be required to travel to different locations of the Company to execute duties as required.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • To carry out preventative and predictive maintenance checks, inspections and repairs on plant and equipment in accordance with requirements of the approved maintenance schedule.
  • Before a project begins, assist with cleaning and preparing the work space for the Electro Technical Officer.  After the project, clean and tidy the work area, removing unused materials, dust, and dirt as needed.
  • Ensure all equipment needed for safety is always in good working condition for emergency situations.
  • Assist in the installation of electrical /electronic equipment on all marine assets.
  • Assist in managing inventory, the safekeeping, issue and control of all spares and stores assigned to his/her care.
  • To ensure safe isolation of equipment and associated system before personnel is permitted to work on the plant or equipment.
  • To detect machinery malfunction, the location of faults and action to prevent damage; safe isolation procedures of equipment and associated systems.
  • To complete planned electrical tasks in accordance to plans and deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, company policies and procedures, safety precautions, and proper isolation of electrical equipment and systems for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment and systems located/ fitted in hazardous areas.
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the Permit to Work Procedure in the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure safety measures/precautions while working on live or dead electrical equipment/systems. 
  • To update the Company’s Preventative Mainteanance Software as required. 
  • Must be able to work on weekends, public holidays and after working hours as required. 
  • To peform any other duties in relation to the above as requested by Management for the smooth and effective operation of the Company.

 
KNOWLDEGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
 
  • Highly developed analytical skills and sound judgement. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Sound knowledge of Preventative Maintenance Software.
 
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING
 
  • Licensed as an Electro – Technical Officer as per STCW Section A-III/6 or 
  • Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. 
  • Wireman’s license. 
  • Training for handling electrical, navigational and communication equipment is a definite asset. 
  • Valid Driver’s License. 
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to work efficiently with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
 
WOKING EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS
 
  • Three (3) years’ experience working in Electrical Installation / Maintenance, preferably in the Maritime Industry. 
  • Experience of working in a Quality Assured environment is a definite asset. 
  • Experience using a Preventative Maintenance Software is a definite asset.
