Public Relations Specialist
 
Reporting to the Manager Corporate Communications and Stakeholder Relations; the Public Relations Specialist creates and maintains a favourable public image for the organisation by crafting media releases and developing social media programmes to shape public perception and increase awareness of the organisation and the Trinidad Brand. 
This role is held accountable for:
  • Creating, managing, and implementing Public Relations initiatives with the goal of advancing the Trinidad Brand, and TTL’s image and reputation locally, regionally and globally.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with media reps
  • Mitigating negative reports/incidents
 
Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Execute and coordinate TTL’s Public Relations Strategies and Objectives.
  • Lead and implement a global public relations plan that aligns with corporate initiatives and projects a positive company and brand image to an audience of clients/potential customers, employees, industry analysts, the media community and the public overall.
  • Define and lead global media tours; promote the brand’s/company’s visibility in local, national, and international markets by directing the company’s relationships with key press and industry influencers as well as identifying newsworthy stories, pitch angles and by lines appropriate for media, print, radio, television and Internet.
  • Manage a pipeline of press releases, drafting and distributing news on behalf of the company.
  • Manage executive relationships with the media, prepare executive spokespeople and act as a personal liaison; accompany executives on media tours and to major media interviews and industry events and prepare briefing materials.
  • Oversee the global monitoring and distribution of company’s news from newspapers, industry publications, blogs, etc., keep the company apprised of relevant information, and assist in formulating responses as needed.
  • Conduct extensive media outreach and actively engage the media.
  • Develop strategies to manage corporate reputation issues and work  closely with the organisation’s legal team to ensure that information provide to the public is accurate and clear.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of the local, regional and international media, advertising companies, public interest groups, communities and other key stakeholders to meet the corporate objectives and achieve favourable media coverage.
  • Provide educational information to the Trinidad public on the Tourism Sector, TTL and the Trinidad Brand.
  • Buys media  time  print  and  outdoor  space  in  select  markets;  writes  advertising  or promotional material; and work with advertisers for timely and useable ad submissions.
  • Respond to request for information from the media for information on the organisation’s activities, products and services, photographs, interviews etc.
  • Manage logistics, schedules, press briefings, press room accommodations, and post-show follow up meetings for the company’s high-profile business/sponsored events; organise and manage other special events such as retreats, staff engagement activities, signing ceremonies, seminars etc.
  • Provide support to peers in TTL’s promotional and communication projects and events by providing specialist advice and guidance to ensure that the various campaigns are compatible with the image the company is trying to portray.
  • Organise  speaking  engagements,  press  interviews,  public  presentations  for  company officials.
  • Collate and analyse media coverage of TTL and the Trinidad Brand and conduct research
  • on the public’s perception of the company and brand.
  • Observe social, economic, and political trends that might affect the organisation and
  • recommend ways to enhance the organisation’s image based on those trends.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the company.
  • Sponsor corporate events to enhance visibility of the brand and company.
  • Act as the liaison between the company and the public.
 
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
  • Minimum - Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Business or other relevant discipline from an Accredited institution
  • Minimum  -  Five  (5)  years  relevant  work  experience  in  a  Public/Media  Relations environment.
  • Knowledge of the Tourism Sector would be an asset.
  • Excellent command of English with strong editing, proofing, press release writing skills.
  • Exposure to the full spectrum of corporate communications including PR/Media, Crisis Communications, Editorial production, Event Management, Corporate Visual Identify.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite Graphics and Photo Imaging Software, Video Creating and Editing Software.
  • Proficiency in foreign languages would be an asset.
  • Highly organized; detail oriented.
  • Creative and innovative.
  • Good project management and presentation skills.
