Leads and oversee Finance / Insurance in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean (SLTT / SICL / SIECL) in the area of Financial Reporting ensuring all plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture through their team to deepen client relationships and leverage border bank relationships, systems and knowledge. 
  • The ongoing design, development and maintenance of the necessary financial internal controls and accounting procedures for the region’s insurance entities and distribution networks. 
  • Completion of regulatory returns. 
  • Completion of Management Accounts. 
  • Month end close process with ScotiaGlobe / Caribbean GL. 
  • Prepare  actuarial reserves entries for all entities. 
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. 
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 
  • Champions a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Job Requirements

  • A graduate degree (MSC / MBA) in Accounting or Finance
  • An accounting designation (ACCA or CPA)
  • 3 – 5 year’s work experience is a prerequisite. 
  • Good knowledge of accounting, with a good working knowledge of IFRS particularly applicable to Insurance Companies. 
  • Ability to manage complex issues in an organized and timely fashion, gathering factors affecting performance, isolating the issues and assessing their effect on the Company. 
  • Ability to deliver quality analyses and reports to meet very tight deadlines; adaptability to work on several high priority items at once; experience with financial reporting procedure; good personal management abilities and self-motivational characteristics. 
  • A strong proficiency in using computer spreadsheets and word processing applications is required. Ability to conceptualise problems and clearly communicate solutions, ability to apply analytical techniques for evaluating investments and make sound recommendations. 
  • Ability to motivate and effectively manage high performing teams. 
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
