ASSISTANT MANAGER OPERATIONS

Reports to:  Risk & Underwriting Manager


Responsible For:
  • Business Development Team Lead
  • Underwriting Supervisor

Job Function
The Assistant Manager Operations will lead on a wide range of activities and initiatives as it relates to business operations in order to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Having a sound knowledge of underwriting, the post holder will support the Risk and Underwriting Manager in pursuing the achievement of financial and other company goals and objectives.

The post holder will also play a key role in the management and development of a high performing Team, ensuring that effective leadership is provided.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
 
Financial
  1. Responsible for the continuous achievement of the business development budget through the development and implementation of strategies and plans. This includes strategies for selling and cross selling of all TRINRE products.
  2. Builds strategic relationships with stakeholders for new business expansion.
  3. Maintains relationships by meeting and liaises with Brokers, Agents and other intermediaries to build confidence, maintain sound relationships and achieve set targets.
  4. Undertakes relevant analysis and provides business intelligence to inform effective decision making.
 
Premier Service
  1. Ensures the achievement of all service standards through process improvement and delivery within and across departments for both internal and external customers.
  2. Monitors customer satisfaction as well as increased image and reputation.
 
Team Leadership
 
Leads the development of a high performing Department through robust performance management plans. This includes but is not limited to: 
  1. Formulating and implementing Training and Development strategies and initiatives to ensure knowledge of products, technical competence, skills development and capability of the team.
  2. Developing and implementation of succession plans.
  3. Increasing engagement and teamwork through multiple strategies such as communication, collaboration and cross-training.
  4. Ensuring that the performance management system is appropriately constructed and implemented including: goals setting, probationary plans, Personal Improvement Plans etc., with the timely completion of same.
  5. Direct supervision of employees to ensure consistent teamwork and operational efficiencies.
 
Operations 
Ensures that daily operations at all locations are efficient and effective evidenced by:
  • Meetings KPI’s
  • Efficient resource allocation
  • Clarity of Roles, Responsibilities and Accountability
  • Continuous Process Improvement
  • Development of or review of branch plans; relevant manuals; SOPs etc.
  • Proper Record Management
  • Ensures staff relations and culture support goals
  • Full utilizations of SOLIS and other platforms to ensure full utilization of technology in pursuit of  a highly automated underwriting and business development departments, service delivery and compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements


2. Prudently underwrites risks across all lines of business.
​3. Provides technical underwriting advice and support to the team/s as required.
4. Supports the Risk and Underwriting Manager in the negotiating of reinsurance treaties.
4. Assist the Manager in establishing and maintaining internal controls within the department for operations, customer service and technical performance. 

Reporting
  1. Provides regular reports to the Risk and Underwriting Manager as agreed and as required to senior management.
  2. Monitors and analyses weekly, monthly and quarterly reports and uses information as appropriate
 
Other Duties
  1. Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience
  • First degree in Management or a related field.
  • ACII or CPCU qualified or in pursuit of this will be an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role, Team Lead or Supervisory position
  • Any combination of qualifications and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies)
  • Knowledge of insurance operations and procedures. Knowledge of all lines of business will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of and involvement with reinsurance and the negotiating of treaties.
  • Technical knowledge of underwriting principles and the relevant laws and statutory requirements governing the insurance industry.
  • Strong Sales Orientation.
  • Able to make the strategic link between organization’s goals and the overall business strategy for department.
  • Ability to manage analyze data, identify trends and recommend solutions to improve performance.
  • Ability to plan, organize, analyze, prioritize and make effective decisions.
  • Good problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong team leadership, team building and coaching skills with the ability to effectively delegate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office and other IT systems.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • A high level of confidentiality and drive for results.
  • Strong Business Acumen.
  • High Emotional Intelligence.
  • Ability to delegate clearly and achieve desired results.
