Job Description:

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a driven and diverse individual to join our team as a Local Purchaser. In this role, you will perform all local purchasing functions and related activities to enhance our organization's sales, customer service, and profitability. You will focus daily on our key products and foreign miscellaneous purchase requests to maintain adequate stock levels, ensuring we always have quality products at competitive prices. You will also provide accurate and timely feedback to the sales department on purchasing activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain intimate awareness of our key products (which represent 80% of our business) and constantly monitor stock position and usage to minimize stock outs.
• Negotiate with suppliers to establish price, delivery, quantity, and payment terms.
• Research and develop new sources of supply.
• Build and maintain effective, positive relationships with suppliers.
• Evaluate vendors' performance in terms of product quality, processes, and services.
• Liaise daily with the receiving department to ensure timely and quality receipt of goods.
• Provide accurate, timely communication between suppliers, sales, and warehouse departments regarding order status.
• Compare quotations and product specifications, recommending vendors accordingly.
• Obtain telephone quotes when necessary.
• Build a comprehensive database of local suppliers, including names and contact information by product.
• Monitor price changes and vendor back orders.
• Prepare purchase orders for manager approval.
• Prepare requests for price quotations.
• Maintain awareness of long- and short-term trends in prices and product availability.
• Make recommendations to reduce costs.
• Expedite miscellaneous foreign purchase requests when needed.

Minimum Requirements:

• 5 CXC passes, including Math and English.
• 2 years of experience in a similar position.
