Position Title: Environmental Management Systems Lead

Department: Quality Control

Division: Operations

Reports To: Quality & Product Development Superintendent
 
POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Management Lead oversees the organization’s activities that impact the environment, to develop and implement policies designed to promote sustainable development while minimizing the ecological footprint of the organization. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all local and international environmental laws and regulations. The position is also responsible for the waste management strategies, and water and air quality management.

RESPONSIBILITES
  1. Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure corporate sustainable development.
  2. Lead the development and implementation of environmental policies and practices and ensuring compliance with local and international environmental legislation.
  3. Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, pest control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy in keeping with corporate objectives.
  4. Implement and maintain the Environmental Management System, based on the ISO 14001 standard to keep the matrix of environmental aspects and impacts updated. Keep the matrix of environmental legal requirements updated. Create and develop all environmental management control programs, policies, and procedures.
  5. Lead and implement the projects according to the environmental management plan through the coordination with the department leaders. Provide feedback to the respective departments and support teams concerning the progress.
  6. Manage the plant's waste management through follow up and control of the destination of waste from the production process in the plant. Define waste disposal methods and enforce them. Keep the industrial waste management plan updated. Develop management solutions for new waste that is generated in the production process.
  7. Lead and maintain the standard certification processes, such as ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System).
  8. Lead the Environmental Management System audits and assessments, identifying and resolving environmental problems through implementation of actions. Regularly reporting on environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
  9. Liaise with relevant bodies such as local authorities, public bodies, and competent bodies for environmental matters. Prepare reports requested by environmental authorities when they are required. 
  10. Assess, analyze and collate environmental performance metric data, through management of the Key Performance Indicators to resolve critical environmental issues that affect corporate objectives and regulatory compliance and reporting information to internal staff, clients and regulatory bodies.
  11. Identify and implement opportunities for reducing the company’s carbon footprint and in the conservation of resources such as energy efficiency, water consumption and plastic waste.
  12. Prepare permit applications, environmental impact statements and other documents required for regulatory compliance. Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and regulations by ensuring all company waste disposal certificates and environmental permits are renewed and updated.
  13. Promote environmental culture within the company through coordination of projects educational activities and awareness campaigns, at all levels of an organization, of the impact of emerging environmental issues.
  14. Train staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities.
  15. Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce the organization’s environmental risks and financial costs. Investigate and document environmental incidents, including the collection of evidence for potential legal action.
  16. Participate in environmental education and research. Keep up to date with applicable laws regulating environmental health and safety.
  17. Investigate and troubleshoot complaints and develop corrective actions. Provide feedback and updates where applicable regarding complaints to internal and external stakeholders.
  18. Negotiate environmental service agreements and manage associated costs and revenues.
  19. Liaise closely with senior management to ensure environmental factors are considered in decision-making. Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to promote environmental sustainability
  20. Know and practice the safety rules stipulated by the company. Use the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to carry out the activities. Report to the supervisor or immediate manager any anomalies that occur in compliance with safety rules.
  21. Ensure compliance with the Department’s and Company’s policies, procedures and standards, through motivation, effective mentorship, training and development and performance management. 
  22. Execute all relevant responsibilities as outlined in the Roles, Responsibilities and Authorities Matrix (MT-GM-004) to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS).
  23. Perform any other related duties that may be assigned.
