Job Description:
The
Programme Assistant is at the helm of supporting the biopsychosocial well-being of residents who have been placed at Marian House through the assistance of the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, with the approval of the Children Court.
The function of the Programme Assistant involves both household and administrative management of Marian House to make certain that processes and personnel are set up to deal with the immediate and long term needs of the residents of Marian House.
Marian House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and youth and expects everyone connected with the ministry to share in this commitment. All these services will be delivered in keeping with best practice, while respecting and promoting the rights of the child.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Storage, Stocks and Supplies/Inventory
- Manage inventory systems
- Maintain all storage rooms. This includes but is not limited to:
- Kitchen stock room
- Linen and clothing room
- First Aid cabinet
- Oversee and log items required by cook, residents and/or other staff members
- Requisition of bi-weekly market goods and monthly grocery items
Case Management
- Sit on Case Management Team, to participate the following activities:
- Screening and admission interviews
- Case management meetings
- Prepare initial care plans for new residents (for submission to Children’s Authority and Children Court)
- Monitor the behavioral management system, through the use of behavioral management books. Ensuring that consequences are being administered by supervisors and that they are being completed by residents
- Participate in resident disciplinary meetings with programme coordinator
- Provide case management notes to programme coordinator as required
Welfare
- Prepare welcome and discharge package for new and transitioning residents
- Accompany minors to non-academic day time appointments (assessments, doctor/clinic visits etc.)
- Ensure school items are sourced and issued to residents as needed
- Ensure that all residents are having required meals, through monitoring of Meal Book
- Ensure where applicable, that residents are administered their medical regime
- Assist in the transition activities of both senior and St. Joseph residents, as requested by management
- May be required to accompany residents on house outings/trips
Maintenance and Housekeeping
- Ensure supervisors are up to par with household maintenance standards, though the inspection of bedrooms, washrooms and common areas
- Engage in weekly facility checkups and report on requirements (St. Joseph Apartment, computer lab, bedrooms, washrooms, homework room, communal areas and court etc)
- Launder all household linen - bedding, curtains, towels and mats
- Maintain female washroom
- Manage use of laundry rooms by residents (washer and dryer)
Administrative
- Receive handover from Supervisor on mornings
- Review Daily Entry Log and Instruction Book daily
- Review weekly menus submitted by cook
- Review medication book
- Diarize daily activities
- Provide written reports when required
- Report findings to management as they occur
- Assist in the filing of resident individual files
- Assist with the management of petty cash
- Assist in the development of rosters for supervisors and cook
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES- Basic knowledge of social intervention strategies
- Basic knowledge of behavior management strategies
- Basic knowledge of laws relating to the protection of children
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work with, care for and supervise young people
- Ability and willingness to work in a multicultural environment
- Ability to work in teams
- Planning and organizational skills
- Demonstrable interest in children and youth, their needs and rights
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of (10) years of experience in a residential care facility for children and youth
- Background in Social Work
- Certification in Residential Care and Safeguarding Training or any related field
- Training in First Aid and CPR
- Possess a Police Certificate of Good Character
