Job Description:
Position IdentificationPosition Title: Accountant IV
Position Reports to: Financial Comptroller
Supervision of: Accountant I
- Indirect reporting of all Accounting Staff to the Accountant IV
Job SummaryOversees the operational activities of the Accounts Unit. Ensures the integrity of the accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions to provide timely and accurate reports and analyses to our Internal and External stakeholders.
Principal Accountabilities
- Supervises and delegates responsibilities to Accounting Staff to ensure all functions are adequately managed.
- Oversees and approves monthly and quarterly General Ledger entries and account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
- Supports in the preparation of the annual budget inclusive of updating accounting software with the approved budgeted allocations and monitoring performance against budgets.
- Requests and monitors monthly and quarterly subventions from the Ministry as per budgeted allocations.
- Monitors and approves monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Reviews and approves the monthly payroll.
- Reviews revenue recognition from the various streams for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual accounting reports and summaries as required.
- Ensures compliance with statutory requirements within timelines (VAT, PAYE, NIS etc.).
- Assists with the Financial Year-end audit process, preparation of schedules, work with Auditors to resolve all queries and manage the retrieval of documents and samples.
- Assists with the drafting of Accounting policies and procedures and ensure implementation within the daily functions of the unit.
- In consultation with the Financial Comptroller provide leadership in manpower planning, succession planning, and the establishment of competency, training and development programmes for staff and continually monitor and assess performance.
- Prepares adhoc financial reports as may be required from time to time.
- Liaises with external financial institutions and agencies as required.
Person SpecificationsAcademic/Technical
- ACCA Qualified at Level III.
Work Experience
- At least five years graduate work experience in a computerized accounting environment.
Other Skills/Knowledge
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and Government officials.
- Strong analytical skills.
