Company Profile:
The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) maintains its position as the largest operating desalination facility in the western hemisphere. The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) at the current operating capacity of 40MIGD (Million imperial gallons per day).

Desalcott is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic individual to fill the position of CIVIL / PROJECTS ENGINEER.

The locations for this position will be Point Lisas Industrial Estate and Caroni E-teck Park.
 
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
The Civil / Projects Engineer will be responsible for strategically planning, developing, supervising, monitoring and reporting on all Engineering Projects. Additionally, there will be an overall responsibility for maintenance tasks/ activities on site as it relates to: buildings, structures, building services, drainage, underground utilities, landscaping, grounds, etc...  This will include, but not be limited to the following:
  1. Manage the day-to-day operations of any assigned site/project. This includes, liaising with sub-contractors, suppliers and assigned personnel.
  2. Determining project costs by calculating labor, material, equipment and related costs, with preparation of work schedules and resources allocation.  
  3. Producing engineering documents such as determining materials required, purchase requisitions, structural calculations, subcontractor scopes of work, construction specifications, plans and schedules.
  4. Confirming adherence to construction, scope, specifications, safety and QA/ QC standards by monitoring project progress, inspection of construction sites, verifying calculations and placements.
  5. Maintaining project database (entering data, analyzing data, monitoring trends and completing backups). This also includes the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports for Management to be utilized in Client updates.
  6. Maintaining operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures. Also, providing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  7. Incorporating special features which relate to the project at hand into specifications. These include order of work, physical conditions at the site, construction work schedules, method of payment and measurement, construction procedures and special methods, and coordination with contractors and other stakeholders.
  8. Communicating with Executive Management on issues concerning specifications, engineering interpretations and explanations, supply of items, and items of work, and offer recommendations on reviewing specifications.
  9. Reviewing and approving or adjusting sub-contractor valuations based on work completed.
  10. Communicating with clients as and when required.
  11. Flexibility as it relates to working hours. Our plant operates 24/7. This position requires the candidate to work on a Saturday.
  12. Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Ag. Chief Engineer or his designate.
 
Qualifications:  
  1. BSc Civil Engineering from a recognized accredited University
  2. MSc Civil Engineering & Construction Management from a recognized accredited University
Or Equivalent preferred.
 
Experience:       
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Planning, scheduling and execution of engineering projects in accordance with FIDIC
  2. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and Project Planning Software
  3. Auto CAD & Microsoft Project proficient.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  5. Troubleshooting skills
  6. Team player with leadership qualities
  7. Availability [excellent punctuality and attendance]
  8. High level of integrity

  10. Good planning and organizational skills
  11. Adherence to HSE rules guided by the Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health Act of 2004 (amended in 2006).
