Job Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:
The General Accounting Assistant is responsible for a range of administrative and technical duties in the Sub-functional Units of the Finance Department including: Financial Reporting. He/she efficiently and effectively applies knowledge of accounting theory using spreadsheets, databases, multiple insurance systems and accounting software, toward the execution of tasks and organizational goals.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reporting
• Prepare monthly Financial Reporting Templates for the following companies- Bancassurance, GRII.
• Assist Accountant with preparation of annual IFRS Financial Statements. This entails preparation of all inter and intra-company reconciliations; and journals in time to produce the financials.
• Prepare quarterly annual regulatory reports for GLOC, BANC, CALICO.
• Prepare corporation tax, premium tax, asset tax, business and green fund levy calculations for GLOC and other entities, BANC, CALICO.
• Prepare schedules for the internal and external audits.
• To perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the Team Leader/ Manager.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• 5 CXC/ CSEC passes including Mathematics and English Language
• 2 A’ Level/ CAPE passes
• Level 1 ACCA or pursuing same
• 2 - 3 years’ experience with insurance accounting; and a working knowledge of Life, Health and Pension insurance processes and products.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the respective sub-functional area.
• At least 1 year experience in a Customer Service environment.
• Working knowledge of Oracle Financials and/or Plexis.
• 2 years’ experience in preparing regulatory insurance reports.
• 2 years’ experience in preparing tax calculations – corporation tax, green fund and business levy.
• 2 - 3 years’ experience preparing account reconciliations on high volume accounts.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
The General Accounting Assistant must be meticulous, systematic and logical. He/she must be able to manage time and resources efficiently. He/she must be able to interact with staff at all levels within the Guardian Group as well as with third party persons; and must possess the ability to perform large amounts of numerical work with speed and accuracy. He/she must be able to recognize internal control breaches and respond in a timely manner to escalate or resolve such issues.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.
