Description


The East Port of Spain Development Company (EPOS) is a company wholly owned by the government of Trinidad and Tobago. It was established in 2005 with the mandate to develop and redevelop a zone in East Port-of-Spain to improve the economic, social and physical environment.
 
EPOS is seeking to hire a suitably qualified individual who identifies with the principles and purpose of the Company to fill the position of Community Planner
The Community Planner will prepare conceptual plans and design proposals for the infrastructural and civil works the for the sustainable development of East Port of Spain, consistent with Company and regulatory requirements.
The position is expected to interact frequently with Community Stakeholders, Public Officials, Ministry Personnel and Internal Stakeholders.
Some Key Duties
  • Provides support for and/or documents site visits, technical meetings, and stakeholder forums.
  • Prepares spatial plans and liaises with regulatory bodies, as needed, towards securing approvals.
  • Drafts/provides input for conceptual plans, designs, models, specifications, and cost estimates for infrastructural works, in collaboration with Projects and Social Development personnel.
  • Prepares grant proposals to fund development research and project execution, as assigned.
  • Monitors and undertakes research on demographic, socio-economic and environmental trends, best practices and emerging tools and techniques, and makes recommendations for their applied use.
  • Compiles and analyzes data on site conditions, topography; drainage; transport/accessibility, natural hazards and the built environment for preparation of environmental, social and hazard impact reports, development of spatial/community plans.
  • Maintains the physical and digital records, and databases for planning information in keeping with the document and records management controls and procedures.
  • Prepares and delivers technical presentations; provides inputs for project development, marketing, promotional material, and stakeholder forums.
  • Cultivates effective working relationships with internal peers, community representatives and personnel at National and Local Government/City Offices and other regulatory bodies.
  • Represents the Unit on Project Teams and other company initiatives, as required.
  • Prepares and submits progress, compliance and other ad hoc reports or related inputs, as required.
  • Makes recommendations to improve agility, operational effectiveness, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Job Requirements


Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or higher in Planning and Development, Urban Planning or Design.
  • Certification in Sustainable Development would be an asset.
  • 4-6 years qualified experience preferably with exposure to social policy or working with distressed urban communities.
 
Knowledge and qualities the candidate should possess
  • Applied knowledge of spatial planning and urban design principles, techniques, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of the use and application of GIS technologies.
  • Working knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for land use and management and infrastructural development and city codes.
  • Understanding of the East Port of Spain community and culture.
  • Excellent aptitude for critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and data collection/analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Ability to make technical presentations.
  • Ability to use emotional intelligence to self-manage and influence positive outcomes.
