Applications are invited for ONE (1) CONTRACT position of LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I in the Legal Metrology Inspectorate (LMI) in the METROLOGY DIVISION - TOBAGO OFFICE
 
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
 An employee in this class performs moderately difficult organic and analytical chemical tests, physical and engineering testing procedures that have been learnt on the job. Assists in the construction and maintenance of technological projects and in the maintenance and operation of technical apparatus.   Assignments in the nature of samples and advice letters are received from a superior who indicates the type of test or analysis to be made and provides additional guidance on more difficult tests. The employee is expected to make routine tests and to report his/her findings independently.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs moderately difficult organic and analytical chemical tests.
• Performs routine physical test and operations (e.g. machinery etc.) on engineering, materials in conformation with accepted standards.
• Performs routine physical, engineering and chemical tests on synthetic materials.
• Assists in the construction of prototype machinery.
• Maintains proper records of work done in laboratories, pilot, plant, etc.
• Maintains and repairs electronic equipment.
• Performs related works as required.

 
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Experience in the technological field related to standardization as may have been gained during 5 years in the next lower class and training as evidenced by a general certificate of education ordinary level or CXC general proficiency level, with passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and/or Physics and/or Biological Science (Botany, Zoology, Biology) or other relevant subject or Part 1 of the National Certificate; or equivalent combination of experience and training.
 
 
REMUNERATION
Salary will be paid in Range 28 ($6,890) and a Gratuity of 20% will be paid at the end of the contract period.
