Position: Certified Welding Inspector
Department: Engineering
Supervisor: Lead Engineer(s)
Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Lead Engineer(s), the Certified Welding Inspector is generally accountable for the provision of required assistance, on a timely basis, for inspections, welding and painting activities related to the execution of the project. These tasks are to be conducted in a safe and efficient manner so as not to negatively compromise the operations of the facility. The position is additionally accountable for the review of procedures to ensure they are prepared so that works can be executed in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. The position must show evidence of a sound understanding of welding and construction practices, in a petrochemical or process plant environment, in accordance with the applicable codes and standards.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Verify qualifications of Welders for project requirements.
- Monitor Welder performance and conduct visual inspections of welds and repairs of welds in accordance with Company procedures and international codes of practice.
- Review and approve the Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) to verify compliance during the job execution
- Undertake workshop verification of welding machine and electrode baking and storage to ensure all equipment meets job requirement specifications
- Conduct fit up and dimension inspections as per Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and review radiography test film
- Review and approve the Painting Procedure and Specifications and to verify compliance during the job execution
- Provides support for field works when required and ensures that works are conducted according to established specifications, safe practices and procedures.
- Reviews and provides inputs into the project schedule and timeline.
- Interfaces with the Maintenance Department on mechanical or maintenance issues related to the project and other project task related items to ensure alignment.
- Participates in the risk assessments and job planning sessions.
- Participates in Construction walk-downs and PSSRs.
- Supports and participates in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities such as baseline testing and line/vessel commissioning activities.
- Provides review of project documentation e.g. Construction Dossiers, As Built Drawings etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- UTT or NEC National Technician's Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- At least 12 years overall experience with a minimum of 7 years of relevant inspection, construction, turnaround and commissioning experience in the Oil and Gas Industry.
- Certification
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector
- API 570 Piping Inspector
- NACE – CIP Level 1
- ASNT-SNT-TC-1A Level II
Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
- Computer Literate
- Functional knowledge of the Micro Soft Outlook Suite of products
- Sound Interpersonal skills
