POSITION: MECHANICAL SPECIALIST

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Workflow processes – CM (Corrective Maintenance), PM (Preventative Maintenance) and PJs, (Minor Projects).
  • Management of Change processes (MOC) – If engineer recommends a software or plant change, process to ensure its risk assessed, etc. and implemented
  • Tracking of Refurbish able Spares processes (tagged to leave plant, where its repaired, quality checks, logistics, back onsite in field or stock, to install)
  • Utilize OEM manuals, industry best practices, ASME, API, IEEE, NETA, ASNT, ASTM, standards, FMEAs to develop preventative & predictive maintenance procedures.
  • Create form sheets, checklists, inspections forms, to support maintenance procedures, etc.
  • Play an active role in the development of the safety culture on the job making safety a natural part of all work performed and proactively ensuring company HSE requirements are applied and met within the Mechanical department.
  • Prepare, implement and review work packages, inspection and test plans, method statements, and execution plans.
  • Provide mechanical maintenance support and expertise for Mechanical Technicians.
  • Provide support and coordinate with other departments to resolve technical and/or system issues.
  • Responsible for recommending, design and implementing projects for plant improvement.
  • Assist in sourcing and requisitioning spare parts, tools, services and all related items for proper execution of inspection and repairs if required.
  • Assist Maintenance Team Lead to identify maintenance and shutdown priorities to minimize downtime.
  • Any other related duties

Education and Experience:
  • B.Sc., Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR Diploma/MEEET in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least seven (7) years’ work experience in the maintenance and operations of a power plant or heavy plant industry as an engineer with three (3) of which must be a supervisory level. OR
  • At least twelve (12) years’ work experience in the maintenance and operations of a power plant or heavy plant industry as a mechanical technician with five (5) of which must be a supervisory level.
  • Must have expertise in maintenance, inspections, and reliability of static equipment (e.g. HRSG, vessels, tanks, piping, filters, and Heat Exchangers).
  • Field expertise in rotating machinery maintenance (e.g. pumps, steam and gas turbines, steam turbines) is desirable. 
  • Field experience in preventive (time based TBM, failure finding - FFM, condition based - CBM, predictive - PDM and risk based - RBM) and corrective maintenance (deferred - DCM and emergency - EM).
  • Familiar and capable of review and propose changes in maintenance procedures, short instructions, checklist.
  • Good understanding of maintenance and planning, process maps and workflows in the industrial environment, preferably in power generation sector (e.g. CCPPs).
  • Identify any areas for improvement in workflows and process maps that relates to maintenance, activities.
  • Writing of maintenance procedures, short instructions, checklist and forms.

Membership and licenses:
  • Working Knowledge of ASME, API, ASTM, ASNT, CWI codes
  • Non-Destructive Testing methods and techniques.
  • Boiler Inspection methods and techniques.
  • Structural experience (D11) and Certification in inspection to assess the condition of the static equipment regarding corrosion, material failure, etc. Will be considered an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of Maximo
  • Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of power plant fundamentals, principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical related international codes and standards (e.g. ASME, NFPA).
  • Good technical skills with PC, Software, VISIO, CMMS based systems (e.g. MAXIMO 7.6.1.2 or higher) & technical writing.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Effective Analytical, organizational, problem solving and time management skills
  • Ability to identify root causes and reach logical resolutions.
  • Ability to establish and prioritize tasks and objectives to manage time, resources and risks appropriately.
  • Practical-minded with excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to consider the business operating environment to anticipate future changes or challenges and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Good collaboration skills to work with internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company.
