Job Summary 

The Wellsite Geologist is responsible for providing geological oversight and expertise during drilling operations. Acting as the subsurface representative at the rig site, the role involves real-time formation evaluation, supervision of geological services, and communication with both rig personnel and the onshore subsurface team. The position, based in the Columbus Basin, Trinidad, is critical to ensuring safe, efficient, and geologically optimized well delivery. The role may span multiple rigs, including jackups and drill ships, requiring consistent alignment with subsurface objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and describe drill cuttings, core samples, and formation data during drilling.
  • Supervise mudlogging, MWD/LWD, wireline logging, and coring operations.
  • Monitor and interpret real-time geological data to guide drilling decisions.
  • Advise on casing points, coring intervals, and potential drilling hazards.
  • Support geosteering activities to ensure optimal well placement and alignment with subsurface targets.
  • Communicate regularly with the operations geologist and attend rig meetings.
  • Ensure geological data quality and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and post-well geological reports.

 

Qualifications: Education & Experience

  • BSc or MSc in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in wellsite geology or related subsurface roles.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of wellsite geology operations, including geosteering, logging, and log evaluation.
  • Experience with formation evaluation tools (LWD/MWD, wireline logging), creation of composite logs and basic interpretation of rock/fluid types and borehole conditions.
  • Familiarity with geological reporting tools and data management systems.
  • Proficiency with Winlog
  • Offshore fitness certification.
  • Availability for 24-hour on-call support during critical drilling phases.
