Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Financial Controller and in his/ her absence, the Chief Financial Officer

Summary:
Overall, oversee accounting operations, drive system improvements, and play a key role in financial strategy. The incumbent is responsible for preparing and analyzing monthly management reports. Assisting with the monthly closing process coordinating all inputs to ensure the financial accounts are prepared on a timely basis and accounting policies and procedures are adhered to. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for supervision of the accounting teams, balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls within the department.

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Supervision of the accounts Team 

• Assist the Financial Controllers and the Chief Financial Officer in the smooth running of internal systems. 

• Review existing accounting software and recommend/implement new platform to suit business operations. 

• Review journals and reports prepared by the general ledger team for completeness and accuracy 

• Compile monthly VAT returns 

• Compile Monthly financial statements and perform analytical reviews of sales, cost of sales and operating expenses, ensure reporting deadlines are met. 

• Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed within the stipulated timelines and review reconciliations completeness and accuracy ensuring/assisting with the general ledger team with clearing reconciling items. 

• Recommend changes regarding additional controls and procedures necessary to ensure the accuracy of information. 

• Assist the Financial Controller in administering financial and management accounting systems. 

• Assist in the preparation and development of annual strategic plans and budgets 

• Assist in the management of the annual audit. Supply of Information to the external audit team. 

• Maintaining the Fixed Asset register 

• Maintain the Lease register ensuring accuracy and completeness or the related accounting journals monthly 

• Assist the Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer in analyzing Individual training needs and implement appropriate training plans 

Qualifications and Working Experience

• ACCA qualified. 

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, 3 of which should be in senior 

accounting role with responsibility for supervision and direction of junior staff 

• Exposure to distribution, Manufacturing or Retail Sector preferred. 

• Proven supervisory skills.
