Job Purpose
The Accountant is responsible for supporting the accuracy and integrity of the Company’s financial operations through timely recording, reconciliation, and reporting of financial transactions. This role ensures compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and statutory requirements, while supporting the Senior Financial Accountant in managing payroll, general ledger, and month-end closing processes. The incumbent plays a key role in financial analysis, forecasting, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with IFRS and company policies.

• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, schedules, and financial analyses.

• Maintain accurate General Ledger balances and support month-end closing activities.

Payroll Management

• Process monthly payroll and supervise weekly payroll to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all statutory deductions (PAYE, NIS, Health Surcharge, etc.).

• Ensure timely remittance of all statutory and voluntary deductions, including pension contributions, in accordance with plan and regulatory requirements.

• Maintain accurate payroll and pension contribution records and liaise with HR and plan administrators to resolve discrepancies or queries.

• Reconcile payroll-related accounts and ensure prompt remittance of statutory payments.

 

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Oversee the processing of supplier invoices, payments, and customer receipts to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.

• Review and approve reconciliations of supplier and customer accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.

• Monitor outstanding receivables, follow up on aging reports, and support collection activities to maintain healthy cash flow.

 

Fixed Assets & Inventory

• Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring all additions, disposals, and depreciation are accurately recorded.

• Support periodic asset verification exercises.

• Collaborate with the Cost Accounting and Warehouse teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and reporting.

Budgeting, Cost & Financial Analysis

• Assist the Senior Financial Accountant in budget preparation and expenditure tracking.

• Support variance analysis and provide financial insights to improve cost management.

• Participate in identifying opportunities for process and efficiency improvements.

Internal Controls & Audit

• Ensure adherence to established accounting controls, approval limits, and financial policies.

• Coordinate and prepare documentation and reconciliations to support internal and external audits.

• Recommend improvements to strengthen internal controls and financial reliability.

 

Qualifications & Experience required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required

• ACCA or equivalent certification is preferred.

• Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in accounting, with demonstrated exposure to payroll processing, reconciliations, and general ledger management.

• Strong working knowledge of IFRS, accounting principles, and statutory compliance requirements.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software; experience with Microsoft GP and Ezpay would be considered an asset.

• Excellent analytical, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively.


Skills & knowledge required

• Solid understanding of general accounting principles, IFRS, and financial reporting standards.

• Proven ability to prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and assist with monthly financial closings.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, and data validation) and familiarity with accounting systems such as Microsoft GP, Ezpay, or QuickBooks.

• Good understanding of payroll preparation, statutory deductions, and related compliance requirements.

• Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
