Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU) manages a major fuel-efficient power plant in Trinidad and Tobago. The 720-megawatt (MW) TGU facility is a combined-cycle power plant which is owned by the National Investment Fund (NIF), the latter is a wholly owned entity of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago (GoRTT). The plant is located at the Union Industrial Estate, La Brea and supported by a Corporate Office in Chaguanas. 

Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU) invites suitably qualified persons to apply for the following contract position: 

This position is responsible for the development, maintenance and administration of the Company’s General Accounting, and Payroll policies, procedures and systems providing support for the Finance function with specific responsibility for processing and managing accruals, accounting and vendor reconciliations and providing analysis of all balance sheet accounts.   
This role also contributes to ensuring that integrity in the Financial Management Information System is maintained in a professional manner and in keeping with company’s policies and local and international accounting standards.

Job Responsibilities

• Contribute to the accomplishment of the department’s objectives by providing input in developing schedules, supporting the resolution of operations problems, maintaining reference manuals, and assisting with implementing new procedures. 

• Assist in implementing approved talent management initiatives and managing the performance of supervised resources. 

• Support the implementing and enforcing of systems, policies, and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s operations.

• Provide input to developing department’s budgets. 

• Provide quality service by adhering to quality and customer service standards. 

• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results.

• Perform other related duties to support the achievement of the company’s goals and objectives.

• Assisting with developing Financial systems, policies and procedures that are aligned with the strategic objectives of the organisation and in accordance with best practice and regulatory standards.

• Ensuring accuracy and timeliness with the preparation of financial reporting of the business.

• Ensuring accuracy, timeliness and integrity in the Financial Management Information System.

• Implementing and monitoring the organization’s fiscal functions and financial controls, ensuring consistency with financial and accounting principles and best practices.

• Implementing systems to ensure compliance with the timely and accurate submission of contractually required information and reports.

• Supporting and recommending improvements to the systems and processes around monitoring and assessing risks across the business.

• Ensuring readiness and accuracy of information, reports and schedules for audits.

• Managing the company’s insurance portfolio.

• Ensuring the accuracy, timeliness and efficiency of the organization’s accounting functions including reconciliations, managements of journals, management of accruals, salary payments, etc.

• Ensuring all statutory and liabilities of corporation tax, and any outstanding balance of tax liability, etc.  are accurate and payments issued on time.


Qualifications

• Professional finance and accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).

• A minimum of 7 years’ experience in finance and accounting, 5 years of which should be at a supervisory level.

• Experience with domestic and international debt and equity instruments will be an asset.

• Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
