Job Title Accounting Assistant

Location: Port of Spain Full-time

Reports To: Accountant

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Accounting Assistant to support the daily financial operations of our business. The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of accounting duties including stock analysis, receivables, billing, VAT reporting, and recordkeeping for our storage units. This role is ideal for someone with basic accounting principles but desires a career in accounting and therefore receptive to learning as training will be provided.

 

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable & Billing:

  * Prepare and issue customer invoices in a timely manner

  * Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances

  * Record payments and allocate them accurately

Stock & Inventory Analysis

  * Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions

  * Reconcile stock levels and assist with periodic inventory counts

  * Analyze stock movement and report discrepancies

Data Entry & Processing

  * Enter financial data into accounting systems

  * Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records

  * Support digital and manual filing of records

 Journal Entries & General Ledger

  * Prepare journal entries and support month-end closing processes

  * Assist in maintaining the general ledger

Bank Reconciliation & Cash Balancing

  * Reconcile bank statements with accounting records

  * Ensure cash transactions are recorded and balanced daily

  * Assist in managing petty cash and daily cash reports

VAT & Regulatory Compliance

  * Prepare VAT reports and support filing of tax returns

  * Ensure transactions are VAT compliant and properly recorded

  * Understanding of VAT and local tax regulations

Storage Unit Transactions

  * Record rental income and payments for storage units

  * Maintain accurate records for each unit and its associated client

  * Support billing and contract renewals for storage tenants

 Qualifications & Requirements

v  5 CXC Levels including accounts

v  A levels or an accounting qualification will be considered an assets

v  Previous experience in retail or hardware industry plus

v   Basic knowledge of inventory management system.

v   1–2 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role

v   Proficient in MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Peachtree or similar)

v  Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

v  Ability to work independently and handle sensitive information with confidentiality

v  Excellent communication and time management skills
