We’re looking for a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that turn raw data into reliable, actionable insights. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data is accessible, high-quality, and ready to power analytics and business decisions.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Data Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of an Enterprise Data Architecture that will be leveraged to consolidate data across systems and produces a data infrastructure that bridges the gap between raw data and actionable insights. This involves the design, build, and maintenance of infrastructure that enables data scientists and analysts to access, process, and analyze large datasets, that spans across the entire data lifecycle, from data ingestion into the Enterprise Data Hub to data cleaning, transformation, quality assurance, and data storage, ensuring alignment with Integration Standards, and the Group Solutions Delivery framework.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Data Management:
• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
• Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional/non-functional business requirements.
• Create relevant KPIs and Metrics for performance of operations.
• Evaluate business processes, anticipating requirements, uncovering areas for improvement, and developing and implementing solutions.
• Lead ongoing reviews of business processes and develop optimization strategies.
• Perform ad-hoc analyses of data stored in the business’s databases and writes SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions, and views to produce data products from raw data.
• Identify and tag critical data sources (CDRs), data classification and security around the downstream usage of data from the Group Data Hub.
• Builds out new API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.
2. Maintenance of the Group Data Architecture and corresponding data standards:
• Define and maintain a Target State Data Architecture and roadmap.
• Govern changes to the Data Architecture, ensuring alignment best practices.
• Vet and recommend requested changes and exceptions to Data Architecture to the Design Authority.
• Research and develop standard that support the Data Architecture.
• Establish a cadre of tools, systems, and external expertise that can support the Data Architecture.
• Maintain a proper inventory of the sources, technical data lineage and uses of the data in the Group Data Hub.
3. Continuous Improvement:
• Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes.
• Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability.
• Identify opportunities that can improve efficiency of business processes.
4. Conduct Data integrity reviews on systems and downstream data consumption:
• Analyse data errors that may arise to determine and address their root cause.
• Review systems changes, and projects implemented to ensure that they used appropriate Data sharing and protection mechanisms.
• Implement and oversee systems and controls to Review and validate changes to sensitive and private data.
• Work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
5. Provide solutions for Analytics, BI Reports, and Data Sharing for projects:
• Leverage existing controlled and common services for Exec/BI reports, Analytics/Machine Learning.
• Review requirements, Enterprise Architecture, and constraints and develop feasible solutions/ options that aligns data systems with business goals.
• Develop new universal and standardized Interfaces and web services where necessary.
• Design and implement Governance and control mechanisms and triggers to ensure solution integrity.
• Writes unit/integration tests, contributes to engineering wiki, and documents work.
• Operationalize and handover to BU / Support staff.
6. Collaboration:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, architects, business analysts, and project managers to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization.
• Working with other IT professionals such as system administrators and network engineers, to ensure that the data connection, flows, and solutions developed are compatible with the company's IT infrastructure and security requirements.
• Provide technical data insights to assist in project planning and risk assessment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• First Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems (with an emphasis on login & algorithms) or any related field from a recognized tertiary level educational institution.
• 5 C.X.C. / CSEC passes including Mathematics and English Language.
• 2 A’ Level/ CAPE passes.
• LOMA 280, 290, ACS 100 and all related parts.
• A minimum of four (4) years’ experience in one or more programming languages like Java, Python
• A minimum of four (4) years’ SQL experience (No-SQL experience is a plus)
• A minimum of four (4) years’ experience with schema design and dimensional data modeling
• ETL analytics and tools
• Knowledge of Data Architecture
• Experience in a fast-paced environment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.

The Data Engineer must be a logical, methodical, and highly self- motivated individual. He/ she must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and colleagues. Emotional intelligence, strong Analytical abilities, and Critical Thinking skills must be inherent. The individual must possess must be one who pays keen attention to details, be able to exercise independent judgment and take action on it. He/She must be confident, adaptable and flexible with a natural curiosity and a desire to continuously learn and stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and analytical techniques. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while being thorough, persistent, focused with a willingness to demonstrate a professional work ethic. Having good teamwork, mentoring and collaboration skills is crucial to effectively work with others towards common goals. The incumbent must be able to plan effectively, deal with uncertainty and maintain a calm disposition in highly stressful situations.
