Designer Systems Limited is seeking an experienced Electronic Security Systems Technician to install, configure, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot CCTV/video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection/burglar alarm, intercom, and associated low-voltage/network systems. The successful candidate should be technically competent, customer-focused, and capable of completing installations and service work independently or as part of a technical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, program, commission, service, and troubleshoot CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
- Install and configure IP and analogue cameras, NVRs, DVRs, monitors, PoE switches, and associated equipment.
- Configure recording schedules, motion detection, video analytics, storage, and remote viewing.
- Install access control panels, card readers, biometric/facial recognition terminals, keypads, and controllers.
- Install magnetic locks, electric strikes, electric bolts, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, break-glass units, exit buttons, and associated door hardware.
- Program users, credentials, access levels, schedules, doors, and permissions.
- Install and program intrusion alarm panels, keypads, PIR detectors, door/window contacts, glassbreak detectors, sirens, panic buttons, and related devices.
- Diagnose and correct system faults, false alarms, communication problems, power issues, and defective equipment.
- Install, terminate, label, and test Cat5e/Cat6, coaxial, alarm, access control, and other low-voltage cabling.
- Perform RJ45 termination, configure IP addresses, and conduct basic TCP/IP network troubleshooting.
- Install conduit, trunking, cable containment, junction boxes, and related hardware where required.
- Test and commission completed systems before customer handover.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and system health checks.
- Read floor plans, drawings, equipment layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Assist with site surveys and identify equipment and installation requirements.
- Complete service reports, maintenance records, commissioning documentation, and equipment records.
- Provide customers with basic system operation and user training.
- Maintain confidentiality of customer security systems, passwords, access credentials, CCTV layouts and other sensitive information.
- Maintain company tools and equipment in good working condition and follow all company HSE procedures.
Required Technical Knowledge
- CCTV: IP and analogue CCTV, NVR/DVR configuration, camera positioning, video analytics, remote viewing and mobile applications.
- Access Control: controllers/readers, biometric and facial recognition systems, magnetic locks, electric strikes/bolts, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, emergency break-glass units, and access control software.
- Intrusion Detection: alarm panels, PIR/motion detectors, door/window contacts, glass-break detectors, sirens/strobes, panic buttons, and zone/partition programming.
- Networking & Cabling: Cat5e/Cat6, RJ45 termination, TCP/IP, IP addressing, PoE, network switches, basic network troubleshooting, and 12VDC/24VDC low-voltage power systems.
- Experience with Dahua, Hikvision, DSC, Ubiquiti, or similar platforms would be an asset.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years practical experience in electronic security, low-voltage systems, electrical/electronic installation, or a related technical field preferred.
- Technical certification or training in Electronics, Electrical Installation, IT, Networking, Security Systems, or a related discipline would be an asset.
- Previous experience with commercial and industrial installations is preferred.
- Valid Trinidad & Tobago Driver’s Permit (Manual and Heavy T) would be an asset.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Comfortable working on ladders, at elevated locations, in confined spaces and in equipment rooms.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors at commercial, industrial, construction, and residential sites.
- Ability to carry tools, ladders, equipment, and installation materials.
- Ability to travel to customer locations throughout Trinidad & Tobago.
- Willingness to occasionally work outside normal business hours when required.
