Finance Team Lead

Job Purpose

The Finance Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial and accounting activities of the manufacturing plant, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective financial controls, proper inventory accounting, and timely completion of month-end and year-end processes.

The Finance Team Lead provides guidance and supervision to members of the finance team and ensures compliance with Company policies, accounting standards, tax requirements, and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Ensure transactions are accurately recorded in the accounting system and supported by appropriate          documentation.

• Coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.

• Prepare and review financial reports, management accounts, and supporting schedules.

2. Inventory Management & Control

• Investigate inventory discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

• Review inventory adjustments, write-offs, obsolete stock, and slow-moving inventory.

3. Budgeting & Forecasting

• Assist with the preparation of the annual plant budget.

• Coordinate departmental budget submissions and ensure assumptions are reasonable and adequately supported.

• Prepare budget-versus-actual reports.

4. Accounts Payable & Receivables Oversight

• Review and monitor accounts payable and receivable activities.

• Ensure supplier invoices are properly authorized, coded, and recorded.

• Monitor outstanding supplier balances and assist with payment planning.

5. Cash Flow & Working Capital

• Assist with cash flow forecasting and monitoring.

• Monitor working capital requirements associated with inventory, suppliers, and receivables.

6. Internal Controls & Compliance

• Maintain and strengthen financial controls within the manufacturing environment.

• Ensure compliance with Company accounting policies and procedures.

• Identify control weaknesses and recommend improvements.

• Monitor appropriate segregation of duties within the finance function.

7. Capital Expenditure & Fixed Assets

• Monitor accounting for plant equipment, machinery, vehicles, buildings, and other fixed assets.

• Review capital expenditure requests and supporting financial information.

• Maintain appropriate records of capital projects and asset additions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.

• ACCA qualified

• Relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably within a manufacturing, FMCG, food, beverage, or consumer products environment.

• Experience with cost accounting and inventory management is highly desirable.

Experience & Technical Skills

The successful candidate should ideally have:

• 5 years of relevant accounting/finance experience, including supervisory or team-lead responsibilities.

• Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, data analysis, and financial modeling.

• Experience with an ERP/accounting system 

• Strong understanding of financial controls and reconciliations.

• Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.

• Ability to interpret financial and operational data and translate it into meaningful management information.
