Job Summary

The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations and performance of a distribution company specializing in hardware and construction products. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership across the business, ensuring efficient daily operations, achievement of sales targets, effective financial management, and excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate should have proven experience leading business operations, with a working knowledge of accounting and sales. The role requires a results-oriented individual who can manage teams, monitor business performance, identify opportunities for growth, and ensure the smooth and profitable operation of the company.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Business Operations & Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company to ensure efficient and effective business performance.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to support company objectives.
  • Monitor overall business performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that company resources, equipment, inventory, and facilities are effectively utilized.
  • Coordinate activities across sales, warehouse, distribution, administration, and other operational functions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable regulations.

Sales & Business Development

  • Lead and support the sales team in achieving revenue and sales targets.
  • Develop strategies to increase sales, expand the customer base, and strengthen existing customer relationships.
  • Monitor sales performance and provide guidance to sales personnel.
  • Identify new business opportunities within the hardware and construction market.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and business partners.
  • Review pricing, customer requirements, and market trends to support business growth.

Financial & Administrative Management

  • Monitor the company's financial performance in collaboration with the accounting function.
  • Review sales, expenses, cash flow, and other financial information to support effective decision-making.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Ensure proper controls are in place to minimize financial and operational risks.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and payable and follow up on outstanding balances where necessary.
  • Work with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial records.

Inventory & Distribution

  • Oversee inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels and minimize shortages or excess inventory.
  • Monitor the purchasing and distribution of hardware and construction materials.
  • Ensure orders are processed and delivered to customers accurately and within agreed timelines.
  • Review inventory movement and identify slow-moving or high-demand products.
  • Ensure proper warehouse and stock control procedures are maintained.

Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to employees across the organization.
  • Establish performance expectations and monitor employee performance.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, development, and disciplinary matters where required.
  • Foster a professional, productive, and customer-focused work environment.
  • Conduct regular meetings to communicate company objectives and operational priorities.

Customer Service

  • Ensure high standards of customer service are maintained across the business.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints and operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Develop strategies to improve customer satisfaction and retention.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Sales, or a related field would be an asset.
  • Proven experience in a General Management, Operations Management, or senior supervisory role.
  • Experience within the hardware, construction, distribution, retail, or related industry would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience leading business operations and managing teams.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and financial management principles.
  • Experience in sales, business development, or customer relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of inventory, distribution, and operational processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business management/accounting systems.
