Position Summary: At BLU Networks, the Junior Network Engineer is a key member of the Engineering Team, which is managed daily by the Network Engineer Team Lead and ultimately led by the Director of Engineering and New Business. This role focuses on Level 1 support and operational engineering tasks that ensure the reliability and security of customer networks.
The Junior Engineer will assist in resolving technical issues, performing routine maintenance, supporting installations, and participating in customer engagements. The role also includes basic network responsibilities such as monitoring for threats, applying security patches, and supporting firewall configurations. Continuous training and development will be provided to build technical proficiency and cybersecurity awareness. The Engineer will be subject to a stringent technical training program which will form part of the performance objectives for the position.
The key duties of the position are as follows:
• Respond to Level 1 support requests, including troubleshooting connectivity issues, configuration errors, and hardware faults.
• Perform routine network maintenance tasks such as firmware updates, device monitoring, and basic diagnostics.
• Assist in the installation and configuration of network devices including routers, switches, wireless access points, VoIP systems, and firewalls.
• Support basic network security tasks including:
o Monitoring network activity for suspicious behaviour.
o Applying security patches and updates.
o Assisting with firewall rule reviews and basic configuration.
• Participate in on-site and remote support activities at customer locations.
• Document support activities, resolutions, and configurations in internal systems.
• Escalate complex issues to senior engineers with detailed context and diagnostics.
• Support wireless site surveys and assist with wireless installations.
• Attend customer meetings to provide technical support, deliver presentations and gather basic requirements.
• Participate in ongoing training and certification programs as outlined in the company’s technical development plan.
• Assist with sales administration, including tracking opportunities and supporting solution delivery with a customer-focused approach.

Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in networking or a related IT field.
• Certifications:
One or more of the following (or equivalent):
o Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
o Juniper Networks Certified Associate – Junos (JNCIA-Junos)
