Job Summary

Working as an Operations Geologist within a multi-disciplinary team, the candidate will play a critical role in the planning, execution, and delivery of subsurface objectives for multiple complex well projects with overlapping activity on both jackups and drill ships. Acting as a key interface between geoscientists and drilling engineers, the candidate will ensure geological objectives are achieved while adapting to operational constraints. A strong HSSE mindset and commercial awareness are essential, with a focus on safe, efficient, and cost-effective practices. The role, based in the Columbus Basin, Trinidad, requires visible, measurable, and value-added contributions throughout all phases of well delivery.

Key Responsibilities-

Pre-Spud Planning

  • Serve as the primary interface between subsurface and well engineering teams.
  • Ensure compliance with well delivery process steps and participate in DWOPs, VARs, and decision gate reviews.
  • Liaise with lead geologists and well engineers to define well functional specifications and casing points.
  • Contribute to compilation of the Well Proposal, Drilling Programmes, and Borehole Risking Template.
  • Establish and implement data security and communication protocols.
  • Define operational success criteria and support scenario planning.
  • Coordinate third-party services (mudlogging, advanced gas, paleo, etc.).
  • Support geohazard assessments and shallow hazard monitoring.

Drilling Execution

  • Supervise and coordinate with the Wellsite Geologist, ensuring alignment on subsurface objectives, data quality, operational decisions and that all geological activities on the rig are properly managed.
  • Maintain continuous communication with drilling and subsurface teams, supported by daily reporting and section updates.
  • Support casing and TD selection, geosteering, and formation testing programs.
  • Support geomechanics specialists in evaluating borehole conditions using logs, cuttings, and other data.
  • Work closely with petrophysicists on LWD and wireline data, coring operations, and data transmission.
  • Partner with geologists to make offset correlations, identify formations for decision-making.
  • Monitor real-time well data and perform geologic correlations
  • Assuring learnings from initial wells are shared and incorporated into later wells.

 Post-Well Activities

  • Collate and archive geological data; QC final logs and reports.
  • Contribute to End of Well Reports and participate in After-Action Reviews.
  • Provide timely feedback and insights to multidisciplinary teams.
