POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Quality Assurance Chemist Quality Control/Production Laborator is to ensure that all end products and raw material used in the manufacturing process meet Local and International Food and Drug standards; and to formulate and develop new products whilst improving on existing product lines.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conducts quality control tests on all raw materials and manufactured/finished products.
  2. Inspects and approves all raw materials, labels, chemicals compounds before use in production.
  3. Inspects and approves batch sheets, product approval stickers, filling schedules and test cards.
  4. Prepares testing compounds and agents for quality testing.
  5. Works closely with Laboratory Supervisor and Head Compounder to achieve correct shades and blends of cosmetics colours.
  6. Ensures that water filtration systems/water filters are kept clean and free from contamination.
  7. Signs off on monthly microbial Test Reports
  8. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of batch numbers, samples, quality certificates, test cards, formulae, MSDS sheets and COAS.
  9. Ensures that all chemicals — incoming and stored — are labelled, stored or disposed-of correctly.
  10. Ensures laboratory' equipment are kept in proper working condition through ongoing calibration, planned maintenance and early detection of glitches/malfunctions.
  11. Collaborates with Marketing Manager on product improvement and new product development.
  12. Monitors raw material usage and makes recommendations for maximising yield/minimising wastage without compromising quality
  13. Prepares monthly and annual "Raw Material Usage"
  14. Report Assists Laboratory Supervisor as required.
  15. Serves as a member of the Company's Safety Committee
  16. Attends all Production Meetings
  17. Performs other related duties as may be required by the job function.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. BSc in Chemistry or Bio Chemistry from a recognized institution
  2. Advanced Certificate in Good Manufacturing Practices
  3. Certificate in Quality Control practices and policies
  4. A minimum of three (3) years' experience in chemical testing/transformations processes and disposal of chemical waste
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft office suite: Word, Excel - Charts, Graphs and Flow Diagrams

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Must possess a working knowledge of chemical composition of substances and their compatibilities
  2. Proven ability to identify, handle and store dangerous chemicals in a safe manner.
  3. Must be organized with the ability to analyse, categorize, code and verify a diverse range of data such as Material Safety Data Reports, batch reports, raw materials, test sampling.
  4. Demonstrated ability to use mathematical and scientific reasoning to develop formulas or detect problems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS

  1. Handles hazardous chemicals, chemical reagents and gases.
  2. Exposure to dust, noise, heat and water and pungent odours (LPG gas).
  3. Use of 20/20 vision to determine microscopic variations in colours, shades and tones
  4. Regular use of digital testing and measuring instruments, digital scales, viscometer, autoclave, incubator, mixers, hot plate, PH meter. glassware.
