Job Specification:

Job Summary:

The position of Chief Operations Officer (COO) will be responsible for the leadership and effective management of Workshop productivity, human capital, the annual operating plans and budgets at the strategic level and guides the process at the tactical level, maintaining strategies to meet organizational objectives. In addition, this position will be responsible for managing the organization's stakeholder relationships as well as internal communication.
 
Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer
 
Key Responsibilities:

Workshop Operations (All VMCOTT's locations) inclusive of Service Units, Human Resources Materials and Procurement, Engineering, inclusive of Projects and Facilities

Supervises:  

Managers and Professional Staff responsible for Workshop Operations, Human Resources, Materials and Procurement, Engineering
 
Secondary Relationships/Supervises: 

Supervisors- Service, HSE Officer, Facilities Superintendent
 

Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Operations, Planning and control:
 
  • Creates annual operating plans that support strategic directions set by the Board and correlate with annual operating budgets; submits annual plans to CEO for approval.
  • Develops and implement Workflow processes to ensure the efficient running of the Workshops operations.
  • Develop and revise Policies and Procedures for the Operations Department, ensuring that they are current and meet
  • Provides prompt and accurate information to keep the CEO appropriately informed of the organisation's productivity,
  • Insure accurate documentation of production and quality control data and records.
  • Direct and oversee site production activities and personnel.
  • Ensures high safety standards at all times.
  • Direct production activities to insure safety and compliance with quality control standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures that the organization maintains good housekeeping at all Facilities. 

Engineering, Projects, Facilities:
  • Projects management and maintenance and security of facilities.
  • Responsibility for the research and development of design systems that integrate material, equipment, information and people in the overall production processes.
  • Directs the Engineering Manager in the coordination of engineering projects, consultants / contractors.
  • Oversight of the organization's maintenance, safety and security measures and ensures that assessment are carried out to
  • Communicates strategy based on the corporate strategic vision
  • Ensures maintenance of VMCOTT's equipment and facilities
 
Strategic Human Resource Management:
  • Lead the development and execution of the Human Resources strategic plan and shorter term plans and initiatives to support the business strategies and promote a unified company culture.
  • Work with executive leadership and HR personnel to develop effective internal communications (between and among management and employees) to promote morale and achieve company-wide goals.
  • Provide leadership to the HR team and build organizational capability and effectiveness. Ensure a strong focus on internal customer satisfaction.
  • Provide HR advice and counsel to executive leadership on HR issues.
  • Accurately diagnose organizational issues, develop solutions, and implement them
  • Ensure compliance and maintain a thorough knowledge in such areas as labour laws of Trinidad and Tobago and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or oversee support to the HR Sub-Committee of the Board/Executive Chairman related to executive compensation and benefits and company-wide talent management/succession planning.
  • Lead or oversee teams working with HR on various People initiatives.
  • Promote quality, safety and security in all HR activities. 

Materials and Procurement:
  • Plans, directs and manages the central procurement activities under the directions of the CEO and Board of Directors and the management of the company's warehousing operations
  • Leads the effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
 
General Management:
  • Research and write reports, analyse documents and proposals as needed to assist the organization in determining and meeting its long and short term goals.
  • Manages the human capital of the organisation according to approved policies and procedures that fully conforms to current laws and regulations.
  • Overseas the operations of the assigned Departments and manages its compliance with legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Overseas Managers in developing annual budgets that supports operating plans, submits budgets for board approval
  • Provides prompt and accurate information to keep the CDO appropriately informed of the organisation's productivity, talent management, materials and procurement, projects management and maintenance and security of facilities.Evaluate the departments and management performance on a regular basis.
  • Communicates strategy based on the corporate strategic vision
  • Ensures maintenance of the ‘VMCOTT’ brand to retain existing customers and attract new potential customers.

  • Experience dealing with and presenting to senior leaders.
  • Working knowledge of and experience managing staffing and labour relations.
  • Working knowledge of and experience managing safety initiatives and audits.
  • Working knowledge of and experience managing talent management functions such as learning and development, succession planning and performance management.
 
Minimum Qualification
  • A first Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Management or Finance
  • Post graduate qualification in Business Management / Operations Management will be an asset
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience, preferably in the transportation or automotive industry
  • Sound knowledge of local and international occupational safety and environment.
