Job Title: HSE Manager (Guyana)

Job Summary:

The Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager will coordinate and manage all on-site Health & Safety activities, lead all environment and community functions in Guyana, and work with the organizational leadership team to develop a strong Health, Safety and Security culture throughout the organization.


Health and Safety
  • Champion and ensure compliance with company occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company policy and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed.
  • Actively promote safety awareness amongst Company and contract personnel and participate in safety initiatives.

Environment
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company policy and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed.
  • Ensure environmental risks are assessed and mitigated.

Key Responsibilities Health & Safety
  • Establish systems, procedures, workflows and reporting/metrics to develop and ensure long term health and safety practices.
  • Display a high level of health and safety leadership to all GINMIN employee’s, contractors, and consultants to ensure all targets are achieved and a safe working culture is maintained.
  • Target behaviour-based safety as the long-term baseline of safety success.
  • Develop and establish safety and training policies within the business as required.
  • Develop and establish health, safety & security procedures in line with company policies and standards.
  • Provide safety and risk audits including risk register.
  • Implement and coordinate safety and training plans and schedules in a timely manner.
  • Compile, manage and meet budgets to optimise the use of company resources allotted to department activities.
  • Maintain mobile equipment training checklist and sign-off on competency.
  • Report regularly to General Manager, provide accurate and timely reports and minutes of important meetings.
  • Assist with implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of up-to-date job procedures for all tasks performed within the HSE team.
  • Provide training and coaching to all HSE team members.
  • Ensure all members of the HSE team have clearly defined accountabilities, roles and individual development plans. Provide feedback on performance and participate in formal performance reviews processes.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by Manager. Environment
  • Lead operations to ensure compliance with Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), local legislation, company license and policy.
  • Develop supporting Management plans, procedures, processes, checklists, and forms for ESMS.
  • Supervise monitoring of data for reporting obligations to regulatory bodies (EPA/GGMC) as well as internal reports.
  • Establish systems, procedures, and workflows in line with company policies to uphold compliance to company license, standards and commitments related to the local community and environment.
  • Ensure the HSE team is engaged and skilled in achieving objectives, including managing risks to the operations.
  • Facilitate a balanced exchange of information between relevant communities of interest and the company by utilizing appropriate engagement tools and mechanisms.
  • Ensure that mechanisms are in place to enable the impact of community outreach activities to be assessed.
 
Qualifications and Experience
  • A recognized Occupational Health & Safety degree or equivalent. 
  • +10 years' experience working in Health, Safety & Environmental industry.
  • Driving license and the ability to drive manual gearbox vehicles is required.
  • Expertise in Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental practices.
  • Experience working in the bauxite industry is preferred.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines.
