DEPARTMENT: Customs (Processing)
Job Purpose
- Support Customs Department by ensuring that customs documents for shipping or clearing of cargo are completed accurately so that customers receive their cargo in a timely manner.
- Provide excellent customer service in a courteous, prompt & efficient manner to enable customer retention & new/repeat business
Key Tasks
- Ensure accuracy of brokerage fees & Asycuda user fees to ensure profit on shipments.
- Ensure 100% accuracy of documentation (imports/exports) & classification to avoid wastage/drawdown fees, delays, customs penalties & minimise customs overtime.
- Keep up to date with new laws and tariff as set out by the Government related to Customs so as to benefit customers and safeguard the company from fines.
- Respond accurately & promptly to requests for quotations & information for shipments, customs clearance & follow-up accordingly.
- Liaise with Customs, Haulers and ABL to obtain PTR (Permit to Remove) on containers from Pt Lisas/POS to Piarco/ABL as quickly as possible to enable the maximum period for rent free days available to our customers
- Provide courteous, prompt & efficient service to enable customer satisfaction, customer retention & repeat business
- Liaise with transport company for the haulage of the container from the port to ABL Warehouse for un-stuffing.
- Review customer documents for errors, omission and required permits / licenses before processing.
- Complete documentation for import and/or export shipments including transhipment cargo.
- Prepare package of documents for customs, shipping lines and filing for approval.
- Responsible for the correct classification code for imported and/or exported goods.
- Oversee examination of cargo/documentation for bonded, transhipment or returning (EX2) cargo by relevant Officers, inclusive of preparation of overtime document. Conduct site/plant visit if necessary
- Submit to invoicing clerk, documents for processing the Comptroller charges and OGA invoices for payment.
- Request exemptions on OGA fees where applicable
- Check shipment selectivity once Comptroller charges have been paid and notify Coordinator for recording on file.
- Prepare and submit Brokerage Quotations upon request by customers.
- Answer any queries raised by Customs or OGA on shipments processed.
- Complete Certificates of Origin, Health Certificates, Licenses and Permits for key customers.
- Annually request from consignees, the required documents for processing their yearly applications with Customs (firm to firms, TTMA etc)
- Responsible for accurate record keeping for all drawdown accounts
- Attach processed shipping documents in Magaya for Ocean Export and notify them once completed.
- Responsible for accurate & timely data entry into Asycuda/ACE
- File all relevant documents accurately & in a timely manner.
- Lend support in assisting in Field Work/Logistics if & when required.
- Lend support in preparing Quotations when required.
- Perform other duties & responsibilities as may be required to maximize the efficiency, productivity, teamwork, customer relations & enhance the entire operations of the company
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 2 years experience in the cargo industry
- At least five GCE/CXC passes, two of these in Mathematics & English
- Grade 2 or higher Customs Licence
- Experience working with Asycuda/ACE
- Experience working with Magaya an asset.

- Strong problem solving & analytical skills
- Knowledge of Customs Laws & procedures in relation to Chapters 78:01 & 78:03 of the Constitution
- Knowledge of Dangerous Goods
- Knowledge of ocean freight operations & procedures an asset
- Knowledge of Asycuda/ACE
- Knowledge of Magaya an asset
