Description
Maintains the currency and integrity of the company’s financial records and accounting systems, in compliance with accounting and regulatory standards, to facilitate timely and accurate payments, reporting, and risk monitoring.
Key Duties
Supervisory/Management:
- Contributes to the development of the Department’s annual work plan and budget.
- Assigns and monitors the execution of tasks accordingly.
- Contributes to the development of related Corporate Policy, operating standards, and procedures.
- Sets and reviews work unit performance standards and targets, in alignment with the Department’s objectives.
- Administers HR policies for staffing, leave, training and development, performance, and disciplinary action, as required.
Functional:
- Establishes and maintains the company’s Chart of Accounts and accounting controls, aligns the accounting systems accordingly.
- Develops and maintains appropriate accounting and records management systems to facilitate secure, timely, and efficient management of transactions, queries, and report generation.
- Monitors and tracks all payables and receivables; liaises with relevant personnel and external parties to facilitate timely disbursements and receipt of funds, as authorized.
- Verifies and validates all financial transactions against supporting documents. Apprises Management of actions taken or recommended to address errors.
- Prepares payroll and upon approval, ensures timely and accurate remittance of salaries, statutory payments, and other related deductions.
- Prepares/reviews and submits tax filings and compliance reports on-time.
- Co-ordinates the preparation of the Capital and Operating Expenditure Budgets and Quarterly/Annual Reports. Reconciles and reports against actual expenditure every month.
- Prepares period financial statements and ad hoc reports, under the direction of the CFO/designate, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and Management requirements.
- Analyzes, reconciles, and/or develops accounting treatments for identified anomalies and irregularities, in consultation with the CFO/designate.
- Supports internal and external audits by providing requested documents and information.
- Maintains system integrity and user satisfaction by periodically auditing records and soliciting feedback on the quality of and satisfaction with services.

- Internal: Admin Assistants, Unit Heads, Document Control Assistant, Procurement Officer, Company Secretary/Legal Adviser
- External: Contractors/Suppliers, Ministries, Banks, Board of Inland Review, NIB, Insurers, Auditors
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- ACCA Level 2 or higher or equivalent.
- 5 years’ post-qualification experience, preferably in an accounting environment and/or public sector.
Knowledge & Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial and cost accounting methods, procedures, controls, and techniques.
- Working knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS), legislative and statutory requirements.
- Proficient in Peachtree and applied use of Microsoft Office Suite for analysis and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of current industry trends, developments, legal precedents, and best practices.
- Strong critical-thinking, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use emotional intelligence to self-manage and influence positive outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
