Job Summary
A leading construction firm in Trinidad and Tobago is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to head up our finance Department. This role is focused on hands-on accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and efficient day-to-day management of company accounts. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and statutory compliance, preferably within the construction or project-based industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and local regulations.
- Perform monthly and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
- Process and review supplier invoices, expense claims, and journal entries.
- Assist with the preparation of cash flow forecasts and monitoring of cash positions.
- Ensure timely and accurate VAT, PAYE, NIS, and corporation tax filings.
- Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate job costing, WIP (work in progress) tracking, and allocation of expenses.
- Coordinate with external auditors and support the audit process with required documentation.
- Provide oversight for reconciliations and monitoring of overseas projects
- Monitor and keep in-force the Company’s insurances
- Monitor and reconcile accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
- Provide oversight on Peachtree software, reconciling the monthly Expenditure and Job Profitability Reports
- Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis.
- Implement and maintain internal controls and best accounting practices.
Qualifications and Skills
- ACCA Level 3 or fully qualified CPA or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum 7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a construction environment.
- Proficiency in Peachtree accounting software
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and local tax laws.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working with project-based costing or contract accounting is a strong asset.
