Description
The Accounts Officer is responsible for performing key accounting functions that support accurate financial reporting and effective business operations. This role involves managing invoicing, accounts receivables/payables, payroll processing, journal entry preparation, bank reconciliations, and assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts. The Accounts Officer ensures all financial records are accurately maintained in the General Ledger and complies with statutory and internal deadlines. The role also requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders to support overall financial integrity and organizational accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and issue accurate client invoices, customer estimates, and purchase orders in a timely manner, ensuring alignment with contracts and internal controls.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable balances to ensure timely collections. Follow up on outstanding debts and maintain accurate aging schedules in accordance with credit policies.
- Process monthly payroll, ensuring correct computation of gross pay, statutory deductions, and contributions. Submit statutory returns on time and post all related payroll journal entries to the General Ledger.
- Prepare, review, and post assigned journal entries to the General Ledger accurately and within reporting timelines, ensuring proper coding and documentation for audit readiness.
- Perform weekly and month-end bank reconciliations for all company accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly to maintain accurate cash balances.
- Compile and prepare accurate monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets, and variance reports. Ensure all key financial schedules are reconciled.
- Maintain and reconcile key General Ledger to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Maintain professional and responsive communication with internal departments, vendors, clients, and external stakeholders to support financial operations and compliance.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience in accounting, payroll processing, and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of statutory requirements and tax regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
