Job Brief:
The Accounting Assistant will support the Finance Department in executing core transactional and operational functions to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
The individual will assist in day-to-day accounting processes such as bank reconciliations, journal postings, Instaloan reporting, and reconciliation of loan accounts. This role plays a vital part in the preparation of audit schedules, cheque processing, and clearing suspense accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight
- Process and upload Automated Clearing House (ACH) payment files.
- Prepare and post journal entries for various transactions.
- Assist in cheque processing and ensure timely disbursement.
- Manage day-to-day cash transactions and support cash flow monitoring.
- Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Review and clear suspense accounts accurately and on time.
- Reconciliation of loan schedules for Financial Reporting.
- Assist in Instaloan reporting and related reconciliations.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare accounting schedules for Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss accounts.
- Provide timely and accurate updates to internal financial reporting schedules.
- Contribute to the month-end closing process by compiling relevant data and support files.
Audit Support
- Compile and update audit schedules for expense and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist internal and external auditors with documentation requests.
- Address audit queries and assist in implementing corrective measures.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Accounting qualification such as CAT, AAT, or relevant accounting certification (or actively pursuing ACCA Level 1 or 2) combined with
- Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in Accounting, Finance Operations, or Audit support.
- Experience in financial institutions would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, accounting systems and software.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent numeracy and reconciliation capabilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Trustworthy with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality.
