Overview 
The Accountant, Leases will be responsible for ensuring the accurate recognition, reporting, and analysis of leases (from both lessee and lessor perspective) in compliance with IFRS 16, Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 842 and other relevant accounting standards. The role will support lease assurance activities, assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial reporting accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience in large scale rental type organizations, and an understanding of lease accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lease Accounting & Compliance: Ensure revenue is recorded accurately per IFRS 16, Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 842 and other applicable accounting standards.
  • Financial Close & Reporting: Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Contracts & Agreements Review: Analyze customer contracts to determine appropriate lease accounting (lessor and lessee) recognition treatment.
  • Data Analysis & Reconciliations: Perform reconciliations between lease systems, general ledger, and sub-ledgers. Investigate discrepancies and propose corrective actions.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy in revenue reporting.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the finance, commercial, and technology teams to ensure alignment of lease accounting policies and reporting requirements.
  • Audit Support: Prepare supporting documentation and respond to internal and external audit queries related to lease accounting.

    Job Requirements 
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, ACA or CIMA) is a requirement.
  • 5+ years of experience in lease accounting, preferably in large scale rental organizations or a finance-shared services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS 16, Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 842 and lease accounting principles from both a lessor and lessee perspective.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (NetSuite) and revenue and lease accounting software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyze large data sets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in managing lease audits and reconciliations.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of large scale rental type contractual agreements, including accounting for this.
  • Experience in process automation and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
