The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) maintains its position as the largest operating desalination facility in the western hemisphere. The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
Desalcott is currently seeking to recruit a dynamic individual to fill the position of Electrical and Instrumentation Technician I. The successful candidate will serve to ensure the reliability of all electrical and instrumentation equipment on the plant by actively performing repairs, installations and ordering equipment/parts in conducting duties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
(1) Perform work in the Electrical and Instrumentation department as prioritised by the Senior Engineer, Junior Engineers and Senior Supervising Technicians.
(2) Ensure performance of daily planned work and preventative maintenance schedules.
(3) Submit work permits, work requests, preventative maintenance reports, weekly reports etc as it relates to the Electrical and Instrumentation department.
(4) Responsible for ensuring proper upkeep of tools and testing of equipment.
(5) Provide emergency or on call response as required based on departmental schedules.
(6) Complete shutdown and emergency jobs according to scope of works and specified time allotted.
(7) Work alongside sub-contractors when there is a lack of available: manpower, expertise or equipment.
(8) Field repair and shop repair work as required.
(9) Assist in the re-ordering of spare parts.
(10) Perform all related tasks as directed by the Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer or his designate.
a. In addition, the Technician will be required to perform duties as identified by the Junior Engineers and Senior Supervising Technician.
Qualifications and Experience:
(1) Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians Diploma from a recognized institution.
(2) 5 CXC passes inclusive of Mathematics and English Language.
(3) Familiarity with ABB VFD service and repair, MCCs and Switchgear (480V, 575V), industrial lighting systems, transformers, circuit breakers and motors.
(4) Must be able to read and understand single line and schematic/control diagrams.
(5) Experience with installation, calibration and troubleshooting of process analysing equipment for measuring flow, pressure, level, temperature, chemical analysis etc.
(6) Experience with installation and troubleshooting of valve actuators/positioners i.e. electrical and pneumatic.
(7) Ability to read and interpret Instrument Loop Diagrams.
(8) Experience troubleshooting PLC inputs/outputs i.e. analogue and discrete.
(9) Must be competent in troubleshooting.
(10) Minimum of 2 years industrial experience.
