REPORTING TO : Senior Manager – Finance & Accounting
JOB SUMMARY
Develop, implement, and maintain accounting and financial internal control procedures and systems in accordance with international accounting standards that would support corporate goals and objectives
Comply with all statutory requirements, financial reporting and ethical standards
Ensure the production of Profit & Loss Statements and Balance sheets, and detailed analytical reports on the company’s performance
Ensure through tax management that minimum tax liabilities are created over time and that tax returns are prepared timely and accurately.
Manage the Human Capital of the Unit to ensure a level of job satisfaction in keeping with corporate objectives.
Research and present solutions for audit issues and financial reporting issues identified
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree in Finance or Accounting, or any other related field
Certified Accounting Qualification - ACCA or CIMA or CPA or CMA
Membership in a Professional Association
FLMI or other Insurance qualification would be an asset
Enterprise Risk Management training
In depth knowledge of the legislation governing insurance accounting
In-depth knowledge of international accounting standards
Proficient in the use of Office Tools and software relevant to job functions.
Power BI/Workday systems experience desirable
Previous demonstrable, relevant and progressive experience of general accounting
Strong, demonstrable knowledge of accounting principles and accounting standards (IFRS), as well as tax reporting
Excellent written and verbal communication
Five (5) years’ performing similar functions, preferably in the insurance industry, including two (2) years in a management position

Equivalent combination of Qualification and Training
KEY FUNCTIONS
Ensure the preparation of management and statutory financial reports including monthly and year -end reports
Ensure that financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Insurance Act and Regulations
Performs analytical reviews of balance sheet accounts and key schedules on a monthly/quarterly basis, highlighting corrective action to be taken
Monitor and update the chart of accounts as necessary
Review and validate manual journals.
Liaise with external Auditors and ensures preparation and necessary support is provided for external audits
Ensure that transactions are accounted for in accordance with accounting standards and that financial statements are IAS/IFRS compliant.
Prepare special financial reports to assist with decision-making
Develop, implement and ensure compliance with policies, processes and procedures and take corrective action for improvements where necessary
Develop and implement internal controls policies and procedures that enables timely and accurate processing, analysis and reporting
Develop and manage a taxation strategy for preparation of tax report and filing of taxes to the relevant authorities in accordance with the relevant Laws.
Develop Fixed Assets and Capital Expenditure Policy and Procedure
Review of external valuations for adherence to IFRS/IAS prior to acceptance in financial statements
Implements performance standards and ensures departments performance is in line with pre- determined standards.
Liaise with the HR department as necessary and ensures that all HR policies and procedures are implemented throughout the Unit
Ensure the on-going evaluation of employees and implements the appropriate training and development plans where necessary.
Perform any other duties related to the job function as may be assigned.
