Job Title: Legal Officer
Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU) manages a major fuel-efficient power plant in Trinidad and Tobago. The 720-megawatt (MW) TGU facility is a combined-cycle power plant which is owned by the National Investment Fund Holding Company Limited (NIFHCL), the latter is a wholly owned entity of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GoRTT). The plant is located at the Union Industrial Estate, La Brea and supported by a Corporate Office in Chaguanas.

Job Purpose:
The Legal Officer is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of a framework for legal compliance across the business. The incumbent will assist with assessing and managing potential legal risks and assist the Senior Legal Officer in providing advice on legal matters.

Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract - 2 years
Job responsibilities
• Provides timely and accurate legal advice on identified matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Drafts routine legal documents and collaborates in drafting complex legal documents, such as contracts, leases, and memorandums of agreements.
• Conducts research, interprets laws, rules and regulations and prepares legal opinions and briefs in respect of certain legal matters.
• Provides advice by supplying legal authorities based on research.
• Assists in reviewing existing legislation, rules and regulations related to TGU's operations and recommending appropriate amendments.
• Reviews and provides legal guidance on the development and amendment of company policies and procedures, ensuring legal compliance.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of an up-to-date repository of laws, judgments, contract precedents and related materials in respect of TGU's operations.
• Identify risks and propose alternative course of action to mitigate the risk as much as possible.
• Drafts Notes, memoranda, letters and other documents on legal matters.
• Preparation of presentations and roll out of same as required.
• Copies and collates relevant documents.
• Performs other duties as required.
