The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) maintains its position as the largest operating desalination facility in the western hemisphere. The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA). 

Desalcott is currently seeking to recruit dynamic individuals to fill the positions of Maintenance Craftsmen. The candidates should be knowledgeable and competent in their craft skill and expected to take a lead role on jobs being undertaken and develop supervisory skills with a view to possible future promotion to foreman and further to supervisory level. The candidates should also be willing to carry out non-routine as well as routine work and to act as a team member on executing work not only within their craft skill.  It is expected that additional skills will be learnt and developed to broaden the department’s capability to respond to the various job/tasks necessary to maintain the desalination plant in Point Lisas.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working with Chemicals (unloading, mixing and repacking).

• Ensuring the facility/ site is cleaned on a regular basis.

• Conducting routine checks on the plant.

• Servicing, troubleshooting and repairing of machinery and equipment.

• Performing preventative maintenance and repairs.

• Operating movable equipment on site.

• Assisting with taking measurements and generating bill of quantities.

• Any other duties assigned by the Maintenance/Projects Manager or his designate.

Qualifications:

• Trade certification – as applicable 

o (pipefitting, plumbing, scaffolding, rigging, masonry, structural steelwork, carpentry, civil works)

• Literate

• PLEA Passport

• Safety certification 

o e.g. STOW would be an asset

Experience:

• At least 5 years’ experience as a craftsman. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Good communication skills

• Team player

• High level of Integrity

• Adaptable

• Familiar with general tool usage

• Safety awareness and willingness to follow safety instructions

Physical Requirements:

The candidate must be fit to work and have the ability to do the following: 

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. weight

• Use fire hoses 

• Climb ladders and stairs

• Work at heights

• Work in confined spaces

• Walk long distances

• Operate mobile equipment such as bobcat/ fork lift would be an asset (once certified)

• Erect and dismantle scaffolding
