The Mechanical Engineer will support the Operations and Engineering teams in capturing accurate plant measurements, preparing technical drawings, and developing updated plant layouts. The role will focus on preparing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), wiring diagrams, and plant layouts that enhance operational efficiency and ergonomics. The engineer will be responsible for on-site measurements, drafting in AutoCAD, and collaborating with plant staff to ensure accurate documentation to support manpower planning and job placement improvements.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager and Maintenance Engineer conduct field measurement activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Develop accurate, OSHA-compliant P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and plant layouts in AutoCAD.
  • Incorporate plant layout changes required for improved safety, regulatory compliance, and ergonomic efficiency.
  • Liaise with operations, maintenance, and safety teams to verify drawings and technical details.
  • Ensure all work complies with company HSSE policies, OSHA requirements, and relevant engineering codes.
  • Deliver final drawing packages and layout recommendations for management review
  • Support project planning by providing accurate technical data to assist in operational improvements and manpower planning.

 

HSSE Compliance

  • Ensure assigned tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean, organized, and in safe working condition.
  • Contribute to a safety-first culture by proactively identifying and reporting hazards, near-misses, or incidents without delay.
  • Ensure complete the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) form daily or as required and sign to acknowledge understanding of all identified risks, hazards, and applicable control measures.
  • Immediately report all injuries or safety-related incidents to the Operations Manager and the HSE Department.
  • Promotes and adheres to all Health Safety Security and Environmental standards, policies, procedures in the workplace, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for all stakeholders, this is inclusive of  but not limited to ensuring proper housekeeping, wearing required personal protective clothing, reporting accidents/incidents, non-compliances in a timely manner, attending the required safety meetings, completing job safety analysis forms and permits, following emergency response procedures, policies and training and abiding by OSHA.

  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings.
  • Perform any other duties as required by management.

 Key Deliverables

  • Participate in plant orientation and become familiar with operational processes, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Capture accurate field measurements of piping, equipment, and structural features, working.
  • Prepare and update Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
  • Develop and update wiring diagrams for plant systems using AutoCAD.
  • Create detailed plant layout drawings showing key machinery positions.
  • Provide layout recommendations to improve manpower allocation and job ergonomics.

Minimum Qualification and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in industrial or plant engineering (LPG, oil & gas, or petrochemical sector preferred).
  • Proven proficiency in AutoCAD for mechanical and electrical drafting.
  • Experience in creating P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and plant layouts.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements and industrial safety standards is an asset.
