The Production Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining, modifying, and optimizing all production processes to ensure maximum output, reliability, and compliance with Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) standards. The role combines technical engineering expertise with frontline leadership, directly overseeing operational teams such as filling station operators, filling plant staff, plant technicians, drivers, and Team leaders. Additionally, the position assists in designing, documenting, and executing capital expenditure (CAPEX) and business development projects that support the company’s strategic growth.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Operations & Production Support
- Assist the Operations Manager in developing and managing the annual departmental budget, including recommendations for CAPEX projects and upgrades.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily production activities across filling stations, testing plants, cylinder operations, and related facilities.
- Evaluate production processes and economics to identify opportunities for efficiency improvement and cost reduction.
- Troubleshoot operational and technical issues, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
- Carry out field measurements and develop technical drawings and specifications.
- Carry out periodic assignments for quality improvement, cost cutting, auditing and specific training as assigned.
- Ensure all quality control procedures are maintained in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate plant modifications and upgrades to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability.
- Oversee inventory management for raw materials, cylinders, and finished goods, ensuring accurate records and controls.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, supervise, and support operational staff, inclusive of but not limited to:
- Filling station operators
- Filling plant operations staff
- Plant technicians
- Testing plant operators
- Bond drivers
- Cylinder testing operators
- Bond assistants
- Production team leaders
- Supervisors
- Allocate manpower and equipment resources to maximize productivity and ensure operational targets are met.
- Ensure all team members receive adequate training, follow SOPs, and comply with HSSE standards.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and implement staff development initiatives.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare accurate and timely daily, monthly, and project-specific reports.
- Maintain up-to-date technical and operational documentation, including SOPs, process maps, and training records.
HSSE Compliance
- Ensure assigned tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean, organized, and in safe working condition.
- Contribute to a safety-first culture by proactively identifying and reporting hazards, near-misses, or incidents without delay.
- Ensure staff complete the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) form daily or as required and they sign to acknowledge understanding of all identified risks, hazards, and applicable control measures.
- Ensure that defective vehicles are not operated and that all fleet vehicles comply with the Company’s Vehicle Management Program and Safe Driving Policies.
- Immediately report all injuries or safety-related incidents to the Operations Manager and the HSE Department.
- Promotes and adheres to all Health Safety Security and Environmental standards, policies, procedures in the workplace, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for all stakeholders, this is inclusive of but not limited to ensuring proper housekeeping, wearing required personal protective clothing, reporting accidents/incidents, non-compliances in a timely manner, attending the required safety meetings, completing job safety analysis forms and permits, following emergency response procedures, policies and training and abiding by OSHA.
Other Duties
- Attend and actively participate in all meetings.
- Assist in demonstrating work procedures and best practices, to employees as needed.
- Assist in any other duties as required by management.
Minimum Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Process Engineering (or related discipline).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in production, manufacturing, or process industries (LPG, oil & gas, or petrochemical sector preferred).
- Knowledge of good manufacturing processes and the manufacturing industry.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of Trinidad and Tobago.
- Knowledge of the MS suite of applications
- Knowledge of the storing and handling of L.P.G will be an asset.
