Job Purpose
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing shift-level production activities within a food manufacturing environment. The role ensures that production schedules are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety and quality standards across multiple products and pack sizes. The Supervisor provides direction to staff, manages changeovers, monitors performance, and maintains accurate reporting, with a strong emphasis on discipline, safety, waste reduction, and continuous improvement.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Production Execution

• Ensure daily production schedules are executed efficiently across various product lines and sizes by allocating manpower and resources to achieve output, quality, and delivery targets.

• Oversee line changeovers and product setups, ensuring adjustments are completed correctly to minimize downtime and maintain compliance.

• Monitor production activities throughout the shift, addressing variances in real time.

• Ensure accurate completion of all production records, batch documentation, and shift reports.

 

Quality & Food Safety

• Enforce compliance with GMP, HACCP, ISO 9001, and internal SOPs at all times.

• Conduct in-process checks across all SKUs and pack sizes to ensure quality standards are consistently met.

• Ensure the escalation of quality deviations or non-conformances promptly and support root cause investigations.

• Manage product traceability process through accurate and timely documentation.

 

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

• Ensure all employees follow safety procedures and wear required PPE.

• Conduct toolbox talks and promote safe practices on every shift.

• Report and document incidents, near misses, and hazards, ensuring corrective actions are followed up.

 

Team Leadership

• Supervise, guide, and motivate production staff to meet shift objectives.

• Conduct on-the-job training and refresher sessions on SOPs, hygiene, and safety.

• Monitor attendance, punctuality, and adherence to workplace rules, addressing issues promptly.

• Provide feedback to management on individual and team performance, training needs, and development opportunities.

 

Performance Monitoring

• Track and report on shift KPIs including output vs. schedule adherence, yield, downtime, and labour utilization.

• Monitor and document non-productive time, including idle periods, material shortages, and extended changeovers, and take immediate action where possible to reduce impact.

• Investigate variances from performance targets and apply corrective measures within the shift.

• Maintain accurate production data to support reviews, audits, and management reporting.

 

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve line efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize labour use during shifts.

• Recommend practical improvements to processes and workflows based on shift-level observations.

• Encourage staff to share ideas for improvement and actively involve them in small-scale initiatives.

 

Coordination & Reporting

• Coordinate with QA, Maintenance, and Warehouse to resolve shift-level issues and maintain smooth operations.

• Support planned maintenance activities by ensuring equipment and areas are prepared, staff are reassigned as necessary, and downtime is minimized.

• Escalate unresolved technical, material, or staffing concerns to the Production Manager.

• Submit detailed shift reports summarizing production results, downtime, rejects, incidents, and non-productive time.

 

Skills & knowledge required

• Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes, line operations, and changeovers.

• Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and ISO standards in food safety and quality.

• Proven supervisory skills with the ability to lead, train, and motivate teams.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in fast-paced production environments.

• Good communication and organizational skills for coordinating across functions.

• Basic knowledge of ERP/MRP or production tracking systems is an asset.

 

Qualifications & Experience required

• Diploma or Associate Degree in Food Technology, Manufacturing, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).

• Certification or training in GMP, HACCP, or food safety systems is required.

• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in food manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
