POSITION PURPOSE
The Sales Representative – SM Jaleel Beverages is a dedicated commercial role within T. Geddes Grant focused exclusively on the development, execution and growth of the SM Jaleel beverage portfolio in Jamaica. Three new Sales Representatives will join the three representatives already assigned to the SM Jaleel business, creating a six-person dedicated sales team. The team will concentrate on the priority customer universe that drives the majority of SM Jaleel’s volume in Jamaica, applying an 80/20 approach to ensure stronger coverage, relationships, product availability, distribution and in-store execution among the market’s most important volume customers.
EMPLOYMENT & MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE
- The Sales Representatives will be employed by T. Geddes Grant and will operate within T. Geddes Grant’s established sales, distribution and administrative infrastructure. The positions are, however, specifically dedicated to the SM Jaleel beverage portfolio.
- T. Geddes Grant and SM Jaleel will work collaboratively in the recruitment, onboarding and development of the Sales Representatives. SM Jaleel will actively support the commercial management of the team, including sales priorities, targets, KPIs, portfolio focus, field execution standards and performance expectations. Day-to-day coordination will therefore require close collaboration between T. Geddes Grant management and the designated SM Jaleel commercial team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sales Growth: Deliver assigned monthly sales targets and drive sustainable volume growth across the SM Jaleel beverage portfolio.
- Priority Customer Management: Manage and develop an assigned portfolio of high-volume and high-potential customers within the defined 80/20 customer universe.
- Customer Coverage: Maintain disciplined and consistent coverage of all assigned priority customers according to the established route and visit frequency.
- Distribution & SKU Penetration: Increase numeric distribution and maximize the appropriate range of SM Jaleel brands and SKUs within each assigned customer.
- Customer Development: Build strong customer relationships, identify incremental volume opportunities and continuously develop the commercial potential of each account.
- New Business: Identify and develop high-volume or high-potential customers that should be incorporated into the priority customer universe.
- Product Availability: Proactively identify out-of-stocks, supply gaps and lost-sales opportunities and communicate with them promptly to the appropriate T. Geddes Grant and SM Jaleel teams.
JOINT SALES PROGRAM
- Merchandising & Visibility: Ensure agreed standards for product placement, shelf presence, displays, coolers, POS materials and overall brand visibility.
- Promotional Execution: Execute SM Jaleel promotional programs and commercial initiatives at customer level and provide timely feedback on results.
- Competitive Intelligence: Monitor competitor pricing, promotions, launches, distribution and customer activity and provide relevant market intelligence.
- Collections: Support achievement of agreed collection and customer credit objectives in accordance with T. Geddes Grant policies.
- Reporting & Market Feedback: Maintain accurate customer, sales, distribution and execution records and provide timely reporting and field intelligence to management.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Performance will be measured against clearly established commercial and execution KPIs, including sales achievement versus target; volume growth by customer, brand and SKU; priority customer coverage and visit compliance; numeric distribution and SKU penetration; product availability and reduction of out-of-stocks; development of new high-potential customers; merchandising and visibility compliance; promotional execution; collection performance; and the quality and timeliness of reporting and market intelligence.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Minimum 2–3 years’ sales experience, preferably within the FMCG or beverage industry.
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.
- Experience managing geographic territory, customer portfolio or route-to-market.
- Strong customer relationship management, negotiation and selling skills.
- Good understanding of retail, wholesale and distribution channels in Jamaica.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify opportunities that translate into incremental sales and distribution.
- Self-motivated, energetic, organized and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
- Good planning, communication, interpersonal and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; familiarity with sales reporting tools is an asset.
- Knowledge of the local customer landscape within the assigned geographic zone is an advantage.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory.
- A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Sales or a related field is preferred.
ROLE EXPECTATION
This is a field-driven commercial position with direct accountability for results. Success will be measured by the representative’s ability to grow sales, strengthen distribution, improve execution and deepen SM Jaleel’s relationship with Jamaica’s most important volume-driving customers.
