POSITION SUMMARY:
As the Senior I&C Engineer for this growing, dynamic company, your primary objectives are to:
Provide specialist Instrumentation and Control System Engineering expertise to projects, operations, maintenance and turnarounds, proactively interacting with other disciplines, teams and subfunctions.
Systematically resolve problems and apply advanced engineering judgement to assist in setting and implementing engineering technical practices and drive integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, operating efficiency, defect elimination and standardization.
Provide engineering support for routine and emergency plant operations and maintenance activities and respond to callouts accordingly.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY FUNCTIONS:
Lead and support the planning, execution, and management of engineering activities within the projects and engineering team.
Lead discipline engineering reviews and ensure technical accuracy and compliance with engineering standards.
Plan and allocate resources, budget, and monitor progress throughout the project lifecycle (design to execution and operation).
Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and management of change documents as required.
Identify project risks and communicate them to the Project Manager and Project Sponsor for resolution.
Ensure that project deliverables are attained based on target timelines and within budget.
Lead in-depth troubleshooting activities and diagnose problems in Instrumentation and Control systems using knowledge of reading P&ID’s, schematics, equipment specification, and vendor service manuals.
Configure and tune complex loops, troubleshoot control system alarms to identify faults/failures, and follow procedures for correction.
Lead the function testing of interlock logic system using appropriate logic diagram and schematics, where applicable.
Develop and/or modify PLC configuration programs and ladder logic diagrams.
Lead and/or participate in root cause analysis for operating problems, including the identification of contributing causes for non-operating events, and work to eliminate the root cause for continuous improvement.
Lead the planning and execution of routine and shutdown work, including preparation of work schedules, manpower/material requirements, and cost estimates.
Adhere to the work management system and ensure that the CMMS system is accurately updated to capture real-time information and historical data, for the scope of the Projects and Engineering Team. Minimize backlog of work in the area of responsibility.
Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved and address areas of shortfall.
Engage in contract management, preparation of scope of works, contractor usage plan, tendering evaluation and analysis, procurement, execution, and close-off.
Monitor execution of routine contracts and turnarounds to ensure that general HSE, Quality, and production targets are met.
Ensure that all work performed is of the highest quality through the development of the requisite systems and audits.
Conduct annual review of the equipment audits before the budget cycle to influence the capital project budget over a three-year period.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities and communicate these to the Projects and Engineering Superintendent.
Support in the preparation of LTP and annual budget implementing cost control practices consistent with the company objectives. Monitor and control departmental/plant budgets ensuring expenditure does not exceed budget.
Promote and lead an environment that facilitates training, mentoring, and coaching of junior engineers and technicians.
Ensure the efficient use of available resources in the execution of engineering works.
Recommend/approve technical specifications for repairs to existing equipment or procurement of new equipment.
Develop and maintain instrument loop diagrams, cause & effect diagrams, complex loop drawings and instrumentation databases.
Design, specify and procure field instrumentation, analyzers, control systems (DCS, SIS, PLC) and associated hardware.
Perform Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification and validation of Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs).
Lead the updating of plant documentation/records and the as-built drawings for projects/modifications.
Execute responsibilities as designated in the permit to work system.
Lead Trip investigations, Risk Assessments, job hazard analyses, and prepare the related reports as necessary tracking department actions as required.
Lead the development and implementation of Management of Change (MOC) packages, and capital projects for equipment upgrade, replacement, or modification in accordance with the turnaround planning schedule.
Ensure compliance with all ISO policies and procedures.
Conduct safety walks, safety meetings, and housekeeping inspections as scheduled.
Fully understand the company HSE policy, procedures, regulations, and objectives as they relate to the area of responsibility. Ensure that all HSE policies and procedures are implemented and consistently followed.
Support routine and emergency maintenance activities and respond to callouts as necessary.
Perform all other related job functions as required.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION:
BSc. Electrical and Computer Engineering from an accredited University.
Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in the Petrochemical or Oil & Gas Industries in an Engineering capacity with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level.
Professional membership with a recognized engineering body will be considered an asset (BOETT, APETT).
Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent will be considered an asset.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of process plant design, operations and project management in the petrochemical industry.
Knowledge of industry standards and codes (e.g. IEC 61511, IEC 62682, IEC 62443).
Ability to follow a formal project management process.
Excellent troubleshooting skills in DCS, PLC, SCADA and SIS systems.
Ability to Implement cybersecurity measures for Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
Be able to optimize PID tuning, loop performance, and control system architecture.
Knowledge in Process Safety Management, HAZOP’s and ISO quality systems.

Prepares Annual Budgets, Budget Forecast etc.
Proficient in Computer Applications including CMMS, MS Office applications and engineering application software.
Previous experience directly related to Methanol manufacturing or similar processes will
be an asset.
Proficiency in DeltaV DCS and DeltaV SIS will be considered an asset.
