We are seeking a skilled and solutions-driven Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security across the organization. If you're passionate about technology, troubleshooting, and driving innovative solutions, we'd love to hear from you.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Systems Engineer designs, implements and improves complex infrastructure solutions supporting the Group’s business applications and services. The role provides advanced engineering support for production, test and business continuity environments, with a focus on availability, performance, capacity, security and recoverability.
The incumbent develops and maintains solution designs, configuration baselines, deployment guides and operational routines; supports incident and problem resolution; and works with support teams, project personnel and service providers to deliver reliable services. The role evaluates technical recommendations and submits matters to the Design Authority or other approval bodies where required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Solution Architecture & Design:
• Translate business and project requirements into infrastructure designs, documenting assumptions, dependencies, constraints and integration requirements.
• Validate project context and contribute to business cases, feasibility assessments and technical options.
• Research reference architectures and vendor guidance; develop high-level and low-level designs aligned with the Group’s approved architecture.
• Define non-functional requirements for performance, capacity, availability, resilience, security, supportability and recovery.
• Present recommended solutions and alternatives with their operational implications, costs, risks and constraints.
2. Solution Delivery & Procurement Support:
• Work with project personnel and Enterprise Architects to deliver new and upgraded infrastructure through approved procurement and project processes.
• Perform technical due diligence on vendors, products and solutions; prepare infrastructure RFIs, RFQs and RFPs and support business procurement activities.
• Assess vendor proposals and configuration options, and document recommended baselines and acceptance criteria.
• Test and document configurations before deployment, including relevant performance, security and recovery checks.
• Complete operational handover, including deployment, migration and rollback guides, support procedures, monitoring and alerting arrangements, backup and recovery instructions, and knowledge transfer. Confirm that the receiving team can support the solution.
• Ensure operational readiness covers monitoring, maintenance, backup and recovery, user support, security, facilities and training.
• Maintain as-built designs, configuration records and support documentation following implementation.
3. Change Implementation:
• Develop change requests with technical impact, dependencies, testing evidence, implementation steps and rollback arrangements.
• Implement changes within the approved scope and window; verify outcomes and update the relevant records.
• Identify implementation risks promptly and escalate decisions beyond delegated authority.
4. Advanced Incident & Problem Management:
• Support application and operations teams in diagnosing and resolving complex production incidents and infrastructure problems.
• Use evidence-based troubleshooting, system research, modelling and controlled testing to establish causes and contributing factors.
• Coordinate technical investigations with relevant teams and vendors; recommend containment, recovery and permanent corrective actions.
• Maintain transparent incident reporting, document findings and escalate unresolved issues or material business impacts promptly.
• Verify corrective actions and share lessons to reduce recurrence.
5. Performance & Capacity Management:
• Review infrastructure utilization, monitoring data, maintenance records and error logs to assess current adequacy and future needs.
• Obtain business growth forecasts and assess gaps between current capability and anticipated demand.
• Recommend capacity and performance improvements, supported by evidence and appropriate change requests.
• Submit a monthly system performance and capacity report to the Senior Manager, covering availability, utilization, trends, incidents, capacity risks and recommended actions.
6. Preventative Maintenance & Administration Support:
• Provide advanced support for administration, maintenance and tuning of production, test and business continuity infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Assist operational teams with complex installation, configuration, backup, restore and patching activities where required.
• Review vendor releases and recommend patches and upgrades in coordination with operational and security teams.
• Review monitoring and event logs to identify emerging issues; improve preventative maintenance routines and monitoring coverage.
• Address resilience, workload and storage issues; support recovery planning and tests, documenting results and corrective actions.
7. Operational Security & Automation:
• Implement and maintain approved operational security controls across infrastructure, including secure configuration, identity and privileged access controls, vulnerability remediation and security monitoring.
• Support security incident investigation and containment in coordination with the security team and service providers, and retain implementation evidence.
• Develop and maintain tested scripts or automation for repeatable tasks, with appropriate documentation, access controls and rollback arrangements.
• Perform other duties reasonably related to the role as assigned by the Senior Manager.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Relevant infrastructure, networking, cloud or systems certification appropriate to the systems supported, or an equivalent qualification accepted by Human Capital and the hiring manager.
• Minimum three years in a multi-protocol networking and operating systems environment.
• Minimum three years with Windows operating systems and minimum three years with Microsoft Azure (periods may overlap).
• Minimum two years of technical project delivery experience, including planning and delivering engineering work, coordinating dependencies and supporting implementation.
• Practical experience with multi-vendor hardware and virtualisation or hyperconverged platforms.
• Demonstrated experience implementing and troubleshooting operational security controls (secure configuration, vulnerability remediation, patching, identity and privileged access, security monitoring, incident investigation and containment support), assessed through practical examples.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.
