Job Title: Automotive Technician 3

Responsible Department: Operations

Responsible Section: Workshop 

Job Summary:
The Automotive Technician 3 is the most senior technical position in the technical grade of the service department. This individual is considered sufficiently skilled to perform with a high level of proficiency without supervision. He / She must have the requisite knowledge of and be able to use tools and equipment to enhance his work. He must be aware of and highly guided by Occupational Health requirements/guidelines in conducting his work. This individual should be able to work on light vehicles or trucks – this depends on individual work conditions.

To complement the needs of this position the individual is expected to:

• Produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment I accordance with the company/industry standards
• Be motivated to achieve productivity targets
• Be a team leader and role model for apprentices and lower level technicians in the workshop.
• Oversee and guide the work of apprentices and lower level technicians in the workshop.
• Participate diligently in internal / external training to acquire additional knowledge and certification
• Be literate and able to comprehend and communicate information efficiently
• Operate vehicles in compliance with National Road Safety Regulations and company policy.

Reporting Relationship: Workshop Manager

Supervises: Supervises Technicians 1 and 2 

Key Duties & Responsibilities
The types of work/repair performed by this individual may include but is not limited to:

• Periodic maintenance
• Use of diagnostic scan tool to diagnose the repair malfunctions
• Suspensions and steering repairs inclusive of wheel alignment , power steering columns and related electrical
• Cooling systems diagnosis and repairs inclusive of cooling fan, sensors and related electrical
• Fuel systems diagnosis and repairs inclusive of related electrical
• Brake system diagnosis and repair inclusive of ABS and related electrical
• Truck brake system – hydraulic with vacuum, air and accumulator systems
• Air brakes systems – if relevant
• Clutch overhaul including clutch power assist system
• Engine diagnosis and overhaul – gas and diesel
• Manual transmission diagnosis and overhaul
• Drive line, axle and different diagnosis and overhaul inclusive of related electrical
• Electrical repairs
• Air condition system service and repairs inclusive or related electrical
• Completion of all documentation in a neat timely manner

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

• Equivalent Technician’s Diploma in Auto and Diesel Systems (1and 2)
• Electrical Training
• Diagnosis and Auto Air Condition
• Hybrid Training
• Hydraulic Training
• Minimum ten (10) years highly specialized training and at least five (5) GCE O’ level or C.X.C. passes or equivalent.
• A valid Drivers Permit, Heavy T & Extra Heavy classes will be an asset
