POSITION SUMMARY
Product Development & Design
Takes ownership of product development initiatives by researching new materials, designing prototypes, and testing solutions to meet evolving customer and market demands. Collaborates extensively with cross-functional teams to innovate and deliver high-quality, cost-effective products.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Sales and Marketing, Procurement, Production, to ensure timely and successful new product launches.
- Design and test new products to ensure they align with company goals, regulatory and/or legal standards and machine guidelines for functionality. Determine the technical feasibility of the manufacture of the products on the production lines through mathematical calculations.
- Determine the feasibility of new products through the creation of costings and Bill of Materials, and raw materials depletion plans. Complete the briefs, action and intention letters.
- Analyze and review product artwork and drawings against internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Fabricate product mock-ups or prototypes for testing.
- Approve artwork through coordination with Sales and Marketing, design agency and suppliers by ensuring compliance with all the characteristics of the technical sheets, legal texts and declarations of each brand.
- Lead trials and sample different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances and other factors to determine those best aligned to the new product brief.
- Collaborate with suppliers and Procurement to explore and source new raw materials, packaging samples, packaging suppliers, technology and solutions that align with product innovation and sustainability goals.
- Create and maintain the BPCS item codes, Bill of Materials and Production Routes by adhering to the Regional Standard for Master of Articles Procedures.
- Ensure timely communication of new specification sheets and new product developments to all relevant departments.
- Prepare samples of product items and schedule shipments with Couriers.
- Perform competitor analysis and generate findings in report formats. Share findings with the Sales and Marketing and production teams in Weekly and Quarterly meetings.
- Coordinate and monitor the first production of the new products. Inform all parties involved of the details necessary to manufacture new products. Approve the presentation and features of the new product to release production.
- Generate savings by exploring alternatives and/or new technologies in packaging materials with suppliers that can generate an impact on cost and the environment.
- Review the Packaging and TTL Pull sheets for the products and raw material inputs consumed in production to ensure compliance with the bill of materials.
- Organizing, filing and maintenance of both electronic and physical records and samples.
- Communicate with regulatory agencies on development of regulatory and legal standards. Keep updated on regulatory standards and update Management on changes.
- Periodically review the entire product and raw materials portfolio, assessing product performance, viability, and recommending adjustments or discontinuations as needed.
- Conducts site visits with supplier and customers and create relevant reports.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Technical, Science or any other related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Certification in Certified Quality Engineer, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor or any other related discipline will be an asset.
- Bilingual capability in English and Spanish will be an asset.
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of three (3) years in a production or manufacturing environment
- Quality Control experience will be an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge in promoting Process Improvement, Developing Standards, Managing Processes, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, CAD, Operations Research
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and Six Sigma will be an asset.
- Working knowledge in Minitab will be an asset.
